I found another link showing how it’s been working in Aglandija. [link](https://cyprus-mail.com/2021/04/11/cyprus-prepares-for-pay-as-you-throw-scheme/)
Looks like it’s going to cost us 2€ a bag. Anyone here from Aglandija? How is it working out?

Its OK. 3 different size bags. 2 people go through a middle size bag a week while also recycling. Garbage men won’t take rubbish that aren’t in purple bags. Only thing annoying is having to go to specific shops in the area for bags, I’m guessing when the law is nationwide that won’t be an issue anymore.
Knowing cypriots this will lead to more thrash in the fields to avoid paying
It was a horrible idea when it was tried in Aglanjia and it’s also a horrible idea today. I predict this will backfire spectacularly:
Cypriots will either start fly tipping to a massive extent which ruins public spaces, start abusing public bins, or (best-case scenario) some clever businessman will help the rest of us completely repeal this law from the bottom up by launching cheap knockoff bags. Either Lordos or Evrika. A man can dream…
Welcome to your house smelling of garbage coz you have to keep the bags for a few days ..
Time to get a pet pig, feed it everything you can’t dispose of for free, when he gets big enough make bacon
This is shit. I mean, why can’t you just pay people at garbage centres to separate plastic from food?
Why not put a fine on companies using horrible plastic bottles instead of glass ones (glass is infinitely recyclable) ?
And in some villages, they don’t even pick the recyclables from your house, you habe to physically go to a specific location (usually by car).
So now, we have trash separation, drive to take recyclables, wait until trash bag is full with the non-recyclables (which produce methane gas in anaerobic conditions). All of this is one huge fucking mess.
Smart countries reward recycling, ours punish you for recycling (you have to drive there yourself) but also punish you for not recycling (you have to pay extra, and inhale methane gas for a week until the bag is full).
*Chef’s kiss* PERFECTION
They should just make a ‘pay-as-you’ law and collect $$ for nothing, just for the privilege of living here under the good care of our daft and corrupt overlords.
Adding this here too: https://www.rapidtransition.org/stories/taiwans-transition-from-garbage-island-to-recycling-leader/
What makes Taiwan different from us? Why can’t we achieve what they have achieved? It all starts with each one us, and avoiding the classical “I won’t do it because no one else is going to anyway”
