I feel bad for Ukraine but think trying to bring Ukraine, Belarus, or Georgia into the western orbit could be not worth the trouble. The Baltic States are a special case because they are indisputably part of the West.
And in return Russia will do what? Not invade some of its neighbours? How generous…
If he wanted to go for any actual compromise, he would be mostly engaged with Ukraine and offer them a generous package of compensation for taking Crimea.
>Ushakov said during the call, Putin will demand the creation of a legally binding document that would “exclude any further NATO’s expansion eastward and the deployment of weapons systems that would threaten us on the territories of neighboring countries, including Ukraine.”
Given that the US position conflicts with that, I expect that the aim here is largely going to be a PR exercise in each side presenting the other’s positions.
Since when does Putin care about legally-binding agreements?
Oh, like the legally binding Budapest agreement that had Russia guaranteeing territorial integrity of Ukraine? Remind me again how well is Russia doing that?

[Budapest Memorandum](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Budapest_Memorandum_on_Security_Assurances) was not legally binding?
Fair compromise. Ukraine gets to stay a country and Russia backs off of Novorossiya….likely why Russia hasn’t recognized or annexed novorossiya yet
Like he will ever accept that lmao
What do the Ukrainians want?
Dictator is at the bargaining stage, good. Two more to go, looser. Ukraine just need to tread wise and be alert to any stabs in the back.
