Hungary: Air ambulance helicopter had to land on a football field in Fonyód, because the landing pad made with EU money had beach beds on it

  1. While not a huge story, I’ve thought I had to share it here to highlight it’s absurdity, yet another example of where EU money ends up in Hungary.

    TL of opening paragraph:

“On Sunday, a rescue helicopter was called to Fonyód, where eight years ago a rescue helicopter landing pad was built as part of a beach renovation financed by EU funds. The ambulances did not land there, but on a nearby soccer field. A Telex reader was surprised to find [on the spot that rentable beach beds were placed](https://assets.telex.hu/images/20220816/1660628664-temp-GPlbDb_cikktorzs.jpg) for rent at the Panoráma beach rescue helipad, which was renovated with EU money and then paid for. According to the Fidesz [governement party] mayor of the city, the part marked with a large H laid out of paving stones was never suitable for landing. The National Ambulance Service justified the overcrowding as the reason why the air ambulances landed there.”
