£14.13 per hour is fucking embarrassing for a doctor. And a 2% rise is fucking paltry. That offer should be resoundly rejected without even looking at it.
It’s almost as if the government are intentionally sabotaging the NHS.
Hospital “leaders” should be more concerned about a lack of junior doctors.
I’ve been a doctor 10 years. I broke down a few months back and got towed 3 hours home. Whilst chatting to the tow truck guy he asked about my pay – he guessed I took home “at least 12 or 15 grand a month”.
I’m a medical registrar – I am the most senior doctor in the hospital regularly overnight. I have a masters degree along with my medical degree, I am a member of the royal college of physicians (post graduate gruelling exams that cost thousands of pounds and are notoriously difficult), an advanced life support instructor, and a have published and presented internationally. During the pandemic, I worked at the busiest and largest hospital in the country, seeing acute admissions for 12 hours a day, 4 days on, 2 days off for weeks at the peak.
I earn £3,200 a month after all deductions for working an average of 47 hours a week. I moved 150 miles yesterday because there are “no jobs” in the region I’ve lived and built my life for the last decade due to the absurdity of the national selection and recruitment process. When I told the tow truck guy about my pay, he said he is not going to let his kids be doctors. Soon after, I paid £700 in cash to the guy for that 3 hour journey.
If I didn’t have ageing parents who need looking after, I’d have moved to Australia like all my mates. They’re on ten grand a month, in free hospital provided accommodation.
