More evidence UK drug policy isn’t fit for purpose.
Almost like refusing to educate children about drugs beyond the cursory “Don’t do them” isn’t working?
Was standing at a bus stop next to two teenage girls the other day. They’re both chatting shit about what they want to do at the festival and how “They know drugs”. Saying “maybe they’ll just do weed one day, then a few pills the next day” etc etc. It became startlingly clear they knew nothing about dosage, self care, chemical synergy or toxicity.
Big appreciation to the volunteer medical professionals who work in festival care positions.
Ok I feel like we just need to do what we’re doing now but more of it right? Just tell people *more* to not do drugs. Or just put drug users in prison *more* right?
Dearie me. Anyway…
If they realy wanted to end the war on drugs they could legalise them
Is it any surprise to anyone that people are trying to medicate themselves to numb out what an utterly depressing state the UK has become over the last decade and a half?
Failed drug policy and everything just becoming progressively shit.
The population is also the highest it’s ever been on record. Has the figure per capita gone up?
It’s almost like the war on drugs isn’t working.
Suprised we haven’t legalised or medical or any serious conversations. It’s so normalised in so many places now… dunno why we lag behind when it is so common here!
Records will be broken.
LEGALISE ALL DRUGS
Because they won’t regulate them and keep putting them in the hands of shady characters – who cut things to maximise profit, it’s really really simple, if you advised people how to take them recreationally you’d have a lot less issues.. or you know continue down the self righteous path where you allow some old bint to tell you whether you can experiment with your consciousness or not. Personally i love drugs and I’ll continue to use them whether they’re illegal or not.
Best solution would be to make all drugs legal.
Then just tax it, and spend those taxes on rehab centres and/or funeral services.
There’s no good answer. At one point these drugs were legalized and caused social havoc and worsened child/domestic abuse, fuelled poverty – all the issues it causes today. I don’t think that’s a time to return to.
We do know that vulnerabilities to drug addictions are genetic and not socially generated, ie not caused by social status, so really the answer is to look at medically coping with addiction until a point where we can genetically fix vulnerability to addiction. In the meantime drug addiction will fuel social problems like poverty, abuse and crime.
The people who definitely need dealing with are recreational users who simply fund modern slavery with their behaviour. It should be incumbent on those who know the difference between good and bad, and are not in the grip of addiction, to understand their “fun” Saturday night comes at a cost to people who have been trafficked or vulnerable people/children recruited by some pretty brutal means. That would require them thinking about someone other than themselves.
IMO weed should be legal if you grow your own
Other drugs should be available from chemists in regulated dosages to try and cut down over dosages.
The main problem is the dealer’s pushers who make huge profits tax free from this trade. Take those profits away they would have no incentive to get ppl addicted
When addicts go to get Thier drugs they would be able to get correct information access to help. Clean needles and somewhere safe to dispose them
Addicts would not have to be criminalised to fund their habit less theft prostitution etc
Addicts would have access to clean drugs not mixed with all sorts of toxins
What we are doing now is not working
I think this would reduce deaths quite quickly and over time reduce overall use
