That’s what you get, when you assume, that Latin is the lingo-center of all the languages around.
In reality it’s weird, that other languages do not use them – looking at French here. It’d be much easier to write and read it with diacritical characters.

But look on the bright side: it’s still recognizable as the Latin alphabet, just with a handful of accented versions of the regular letters. Cyrylic doesn’t have that excuse.
