**From Jack Maidment, our politics live blog editor:**
The UK Parliament has shut down its TikTok account just one week after its launch as MPs expressed concerns about data security.
The account went live on July 27, with Parliament promoting it on Twitter as it promised to offer users “behind the scenes content”.
However, the account has now been locked and all content has been deleted.
TikTok is owned by ByteDance, a Chinese technology company, and Politico reported on July 29 that senior Tory MPs who had previously been sanctioned by Beijing had raised fears about Parliament opening the account.
The MPs wrote to the speakers of both the House of Commons and the House of Lords to call for the account to be taken down.
So we don’t get to watch Boris, Jacob, Priti, Liz et al dancing and taking part to tik tok challenges? What a shame!
Tiktok did say that some China based employees have accses to non China data [https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2022-07-01/tiktok-says-some-china-based-employees-can-access-us-user-data](https://archive.ph/y0VjI)
What about the Russian security concerns? Or are those fine because they’re Tory party donors
There was a reddit post a while ago saying that TikTok was just Chinese spyware
Wait. Parliament had a Chinese data harvesting spyware account?
I’m sure that’ll sort it.
No one wants to see MP’s twerking.
More to the point, what bloody numpty put Parliament on TikTok in the first place. We really are run by some absolute numpties.
“Philacio old boy”
“Yes Bodger”
“I was on a hunt the other day and Jemimah, showed me her new app” “Oh how splendid, must get that for ye olde chambers, made in China, like my LED lamp, it will work a treat, getting the singing vicar and kitten stranglers vote, what”
“Splendid”
“What do you think of my new Russian CCTV system, they gave a large donation to install it”
“Ooh a large donation, must get one of those too, splendid”
