Archie Battersbee’s Parents to take case to European Court of Human Rights

  1. I thought the doctors were able to pull the plug yesterday!

We need to use these resources now to care for others that need help.

I hate to think the toll this is taking on the medical professionals that are being forced to tend to the boy.

  2. After reading some background on (not her real name) Hollie Dance yesterday, any sympathy I had for her evaporated, it’s a grift, a selfish grift, and keeping her dead son on machines to facilitate her selfish grift is so macabre it hurts.

If there is a god, there is a special place in hell for people who do stuff like this.

  3. Just let the poor lad go peacefully. Prolonging his suffering is utterly inhumane and the way this has been framed as “doctors working against medical advice and against the wishes of parents” destroys faith in our NHS when doctors are working the best they can with the information available to them. I always hate these stories when they come out, there’s never really a positive outcome for anyone.

  4. So they went all the way up to the UN, and are now working their way back down I take it?

Geez, and there’s me thinking they’d be applying to the Green Lanterns after the UN didn’t help them.

I really hope whatever people are funding them also pick up the bill for the Taxpayer. It’s pretty sick tbh.

  5. When will this end? When he’s completely physically decaying!?

This is just so horrifically undignified. What a dreadful end for this child’s life.

It’s now beyond the point where I can understand even the trauma of grief compelling someone to do this to someone they love.

  6. This ends with police restraining the parents as the medical staff turn off his life support – which is exactly what they want, because this is less about Archie and more about a fundamental Christian organisations agenda and a mother who is craves attention whilst needing to deflect what really happened.

I no longer have any sympathy for this woman. I can’t imagine what it like to lose a child, but this has gone beyond any rational thinking and is purely a selfish act.

  7. I am appalled with how the media continues to report on this. Every bbc article talks about the doctors “believing” he is brain stem dead. Such an odd choice of word to use when talking about science and evidence. There is no belief required. There is no brain.

Hollie Dance is a selfish woman. At this point, my heart aches for those being forced to keep that child’s corpse warm, who are struggling to cope with the moral conflicts of doing so, and being harassed and accused of all sorts by the vile individuals within “Archie’s army”. They must keep waking up and thinking today is the day it’s finally over, only to find another court application has been made.

Whatever is the opposite of rest in peace, that’s what Hollie Dance has subjected Archie’s body to. Shame on her.

  8. This headline needs to be edited to say “Religious extremists to take case to ECHR”.

It’s not being driven by the parents. It’s being driven by the same sort of religious extremist that got involved with Charlie Gard and others.

  9. I saw on the front page of the metro that Archie should be allowed to go to a hospice “to pass away peacefully”.

I’m sorry, you had this opportunity so many times, stay away from the media and just be with your son, instead of being the way you have been.

    Let the poor child go.

  10. I have a unique perspective on this in that my mother died years ago of a brain haemorrhage that caused brain stem and brain death. We as a family decided it was kinder to mum to let her go.

This situation is a farce and I get she may be grief stricken but the people around her egging her on for religious and disability grounds are sick.

It’s time to let the poor lad go and to grieve.

  11. I’m very concerned with the abhorrent language she has been allowed to get away with unchallenged in media reports. Calling the removal of Archie’s life support ‘an execution’ and ‘murder’. Furthermore saying he is in a coma when he is not but is brainstem dead – they are completely different states.

The affect she, Christian Concern, her brainwashed ‘army’ and the media must be having on parents who have been in the terrible postion of having to turn off their children’s life support as recovery is futile must be terrible – using language that implies that if they don’t act as she has they are not decent parents or loved/fought for their children enough. Utter insidious shite. Her actions have been entirely about her, her feelings and her ‘fame’ and financial gain. A decent parent would of put their feelings aside and sided with the medics and their overwhelming evidence and agreed with life support withdrawal in the ultimate act of love and let the poor child go with dignity and peace.

I have had a child on life support , albeit nothing like Archie but an induced coma following a car crash where her organs was shutting down due to shock etc. Lucky for me and my daughter she pulled through with two broken legs (aged 5)- the atmosphere in child ICU is stressful with dying and extremely ill children, to add Hollie and her antics into such a environment just shows me what a disrespectful, heartless and wholly selfish person she is. I hope Archie is allowed to be a peace soon, he’s completely innocent in this entire shitshow and his mother’s ‘me, me, me’ behaviour.

  12. Colour me shocked that she wants to draw out her son’s life by another day or two not to actually, y’know, spend time with him, but to get her face on TV as much as possible.

  13. She’s saying they are considering options to move him outside the UK – and that there are Drs in Japan and Turkey who will treat him. No details on what, exactly, they would even be proposing – and it doesn’t seem that these doctors have ever seen him in person to be able to say for sure they can help.

In the court transcripts, it describes how much difficulty they had moving him even into an MRI – getting him on a plane and flying away seems like an impossibility.

  14. She’s now saying that there are doctors in Turkey and Japan who say he can be treated, and that she wants to take him out of the UK for treatment – quite what the treatment for death is, I’m not sure. So even once this doomed bid fails, she’ll be back at the High Court with another case, and the whole charade will continue, through the Court of Appeal, Supreme Court, etc. It’s absolutely disgusting.

  15. And here we go again… She’s not grieving, she’s made it her mission to make it about herself, conspiracy and to go after “da state” rather than protect her son. She’s become blind in her anger and rage, getting the most out of this entire scenario.

She doesn’t care about Archie. She’s made this about herself behind a very thin veil that it’s about Archie. Anyone who has been in a remotely similar situation would know it is not normal watching someone who has no chance of recovery being kept artificially “alive”. Lots of discussions would have been going on and have gone on. He won’t recover.

She’s acting like this decision has been taken lightly and rushed through. It’s been nearly 4 months, not 4 weeks like she’s acting. He’s dead. His attempt to take his life was incredibly damaging to his body and she needs to accept this – it wasn’t a game. The experts know this, the courts are satisfied with this. The world doesn’t revolve around this nasty, cruel and frankly insane woman. The state certainly isn’t against someone who really is just ordinary (although now she’s not ordinary, she’s extraordinary for the wrong reasons).

  16. She’s claiming doctors in Japan and Turkey have ways to help him recover. Yesterday the family accepted he would die and wanted him moved to hospice.

How exactly do these mythical doctors plan to help him recover from a necrotic, barely-there brain stem and brain coning?

  17. I thought she said she agreed to end life support? This got out of hand weeks ago, it’s just taking the piss now. She needs therapy to come to terms with it, not kicking the can down the road.

  18. Oh what a surprise!!!

Now watch her… those Christian lawyers, sly news and the tories undermine the ECHR.

She never seems to be in the room with her child. Always giving interviews or posting on Facebook…. its almost like it’s not about the child at all!!!

  19. That women is probably why he got to feeling so bad that he committed suicide. Poor wee soul just needs basic respect, can’t even get it in death

  20. This is the ECHR they deliberately dodged last week, knowing full well they wouldn’t get anywhere, so instead chose to go down an insane United Nations rabithole that had no standing in law.

Serious questions need to be asked of their legal team, and looking at some of the court statements, I think they are. Some of the wording from the judges towards their lawyers assertions have….not been kind.

  21. It’s getting harder and harder to have any residual sympathy for the family here.

I’ve just commented this in response to another comment, but apparently yesterday the mother was crowing about how the medical professionals aren’t letting him die with ‘dignity’ by telling her they literally can’t move him to a hospice.

This is from the court documents:

_The parents’ case on ‘dignity’ is, firstly, that some element of indignity is always present in cases such as this, and is therefore to be accepted. Secondly, it is submitted that any such indignity cannot outweigh the sanctity of life principle and the right to life that is protected by international conventions. Secondly, it is submitted that any such indignity cannot outweigh the sanctity of life principle and the right to life that is protected by international conventions._

They have openly dismissed ‘dignity’ as any reason to end this poor lad’s protracted passing from this world.

As a parent myself, I just cannot wrap my head around why you’d want to do this. I started out sympathetic towards the parents, but now it’s just cruel.

  22. This is all about creating endless legal delays in the hope that the boy will die before the process terminates.

Hence the silly runaround with the UN over the weekend which anybody with an ounce of legal and historical knowledge knows would end with a judgment saying there is no UK law supporting it because of our “dualist” constitution. The Crown and Parliament are separate and have been since we had a little spat over the subject in the 17th Century. After which Parliament determines the law, no matter what the Crown agrees.

“International Law” has become the new “divine right of kings”. Law derived top down from God and clever people, rather than bottom up from the masses via Parliament.

Let’s hope the ECHR refuses to intervene as they did in the Gard case.

  23. It’s honestly starting to look like a time loop.

Appeal, rejection, reddit thread making the exact same comments about hoping the kid can finally be laid to rest, appeal, rejection, etc.

  24. I’m really trying to assume good faith on her part but this is feeling more and more like a desperate attempt to grab some fame and fortune at the expense of her son.

  25. I can’t help that feel this case is emblematic of the current discourse where things that are scientifically proven, climate change being the most obvious example, are rejected and questioned with insubstantial rationale. I understand that it would be a bit of a poisoned chalice to do so, but not one media outlet has challenged any of the dubious claims made by the mother and as another comment pointed out, all articles referring to medical professionals “believing” that Archie is brainstem dead, which really is out of the question at this point. The media is just going along with it. Obviously there are sensitivities.. but why do we entertain those who just reject medical professional (who also berate them while they’re at it). In any case, the Mother clearly trusted the hospital to have treated her son in the first instance.. something is not quite right about all this.

  26. Now the mum is criticising the nursing staff taking holiday! Blaming them for going off sick and is “keeping a note” she’s getting worse as time goes on.

  27. This will all be raked over in intricate detail in the forthcoming coroner’s inquest, but there are a lot of alarm bells ringing about the circumstances surrounding this whole tawdry affair. What actually happened when he was strangled? At the last count, the mother had offered no less than half a dozen different accounts. What was his home life really like? He was being home schooled (by his mother, alarmingly), so didn’t have the same external oversight that most children do. Why has she constantly paraded and exhibited him on social media, in both life and in death? I’ll leave it at that for the moment.

  28. This woman seriously needs to be sectioned. Although that would complicate potential criminal proceedings that will likely take place once the life support is removed.

  29. The more I learn about this case the worse it gets. This poor lad needs to be allowed to die but instead is being kept ‘alive’ by parents who refuse to accept reality, aided by a barrister who used to run a pro life political party. The barristers history seems to lend some credence to the theories that I’ve seen that the case is being used to establish a legal precedent that heartbeat=life.
