  1. >Tory leadership frontrunner, launched an astonishing broadside against British workers, saying they needed “more graft” and suggesting they lacked the “skill and application” of foreign rivals

The foreign workers that brexit sent “home”?

  2. >The highly disparaging remarks echo a controversial passage about British workers being among the “worst idlers in the world”,

You mean like the sitting Prime Minister?

  3. She literally wrote a book where this was the theme…brits are lazy, overpaid and have too many rights. Then all those writers infiltrated the ukip erg Tory party and are all at the top table…where they have eroded rights, lowered wages and cut support.

I would be more surprised if she said she liked the common man and has real empathy for those feeling the strain of 12 years of Tory rule

  4. She literally wrote a book calling British workers “the worst idlers in the world”

How does this come as a surprise to anyone?

  5. Coming from someone who does sweet fuck all aside spout complete and utter shite constantly, whilst benefitting greatly on the backs of the taxpayer?

Ayeeee you can fuck off, pet

    Also…

    >The highly disparaging remarks echo a controversial passage about British workers being among the “worst idlers in the world”,

If you want people to be productive instead of just doing the absolute minimum until they can go home, how about paying them a proper wage instead of suppressing wages and causing the whole country to completely stagnate since the financial crisis

  6. So between Rishi basically saying he wants to take back money from deprived areas and give to wealthy and these remarks from Lizzy… Great options! Magic 8 ball says “your future is fucked either way”

  7. The release of this is perfectly timed. Its probably too late to lose her the leadership election, but it leaves her undermined by the Right from the beginning of her term as PM.

  8. Oh. The Productivity drum is being beaten again. Let me guess, the next excuse (again) for not giving pay increases?

Whenever Productivity gets bandied about it often ends up being “work more hours please, reduce your working conditions. Here’s 3% more pay for it. Cheers.”

So who really ever benefits? A more prosperous country? Not for Joe Public it won’t be. It never does.

  9. Why are people surprised?!

This is her published view of the British people, this is not news.

“Once they enter the workplace, the British are among the worst idlers in the world. We work among the lowest hours, we retire early and our productivity is poor. Whereas Indian children aspire to be doctors or businessmen, the British are more interested in football and pop music.”

Britannia Unchained, co-authored by Liz Truss and published in 2012 ffs.

Also goes without saying, plenty of that quoted paragraph is completely made up bullshit, Brits don’t work the lowest hours, we worked the longest hours in the EU in 2018.

  10. If British workers lack skills, perhaps that’s not really the fault of British workers, but the fault of the British state for not providing affordable adult education and British businesses for rarely providing any fucking training.

  11. Just from lurking on UK boards, I’ve noticed that being called lazy or perceived as lazy is the top sin in the culture. And the media and govt uses that like a sword against the masses. Don’t let them mind fuck you like that.

  12. Tory translated to English – ‘British workers should do more work for less money with no rights and unsatisfactory work environments, suck it up plebs and be happy you aren’t in workhouses’.

  13. sad thing is, tory voters will agree with her whilst not understanding that she means them as well.

  14. The thing is the vast majority of tory members will be like nodding dogs agreeeing with Truss on this. Most tory members are retired not working. Generally drawing fat final salary pensions or sitting on unearned wealth like the house in the South they bought for 000s now worth 0000000s. *But of course they aren’t the lazy ones. Its all the fault of the poor people.*

  15. She’s gonna send British pork around the world. Really increase our GDP that will, farming is fundamental to the new age economy.

  16. No what we need is more money. Theres no motivation to do our jobs better because any pay increases are wiped out by external factors.

  17. We do have a productivity crisis in this country. It’s a matter of capital investment, skills and management techniques. For example British car industry managers often blamed the workers, then Japanese companies ran factories here just fine at competitive levels.

Very few managers know techniques to increase operational efficiency, beyond just pressuring workers in the UK. Especially in smaller/regional companies outside of London.

  18. So far all the campaign leaks have been from Sunak, right? Time Truss had some limelight. She’s by far the nastier of the two and has more to hide about her real intentions.

  19. The comments she makes about Brexit are equally as significant as her derision towards British workers.

She has basically said that the referendum was a result of blaming the EU when in reality Brits don’t work hard enough. She obviously isn’t pro Brexit at all.

This might not sink her campaign, but she is going to struggle to escape these comments as leader.

Starmer has all his material for first PMQ’s with this audio alone.

  20. They need to feel that their work is worthwhile and they are getting fairly compensated for it. A four day week would also do wonders for most people’s productivity. I know these are foreign concepts to her and the Tories but work no longer pays and people are no longer happy to toil away for nothing. Automation and technology were supposed to give people more leisure time, not crush their soul with more busy-work so they could appear productive to useless managers.

  21. funny thing: thee was an interesting graph in the FT that tracked productivity growth. it was on a steady upwards trend for years and years and years before the financial crisis, then a dip, then the same upwards trend again. THEN, low and behold, when the tories came into power in 2010, it flatlined and has done so ever since.

so listen here, truss. it looks like its YOUR parties policies that have caused the reduced productivity growth. perhaps when people slog their guts out and barley earn enough to get by, then perhaps THATS the real driver of people being less productive.

how in the ever living fuck are we making this woman prime minister? shes a simpleton who understands nothing. she’ll be the first prime minister that regularly waves goodbye to her turds when she flushes.

  22. Might be true, but at the same time, foreigners/Brits etc etc. Smells like the very typical Tory political method of Divide and Conquer.

  23. Like how do you pick between someone who once had decent ideas but who now plays up extremist rhetoric even though it’s a facade and totally not what they believe vs. someone who literally drips privilege all over the place as they walk

  24. Inefficiency is very much the fault of management not workers. There is a guy in my company whose function became obsolete years ago. Literally sends couple of emails a week and does fuck all else getting paid £50k+ a year. Stop putting public school kids who know fuck all about the real world in charge, that would go some way to solve the problem.

  25. Productivity has consistently gone up and compensation has not for decades; the ratio has increasingly diverged since the 1970’s.

Anyone telling you workers will be rewarded for increased productivity is the one engaging in graft’s *other* meaning:

    >grăft – noun

    >Deceitful or fraudulent use of one’s position, especially in public office, to obtain personal profits or advantages..

  26. The only overseas workers I have worked with who work harder than British people were Eastern Europeans. And even then it wasn’t that they worked any harder when on the job it was just that they would work every hour god sent if they could.

  27. What the fuck has to happen so British society removes those sociopaths from power? Haven’t they presented their disgust and arrogance towards the ordinary people enough? I don’t get it how conservative working class doesn’t see that Truss’ and Sunaks of this world don’t give a flying fuck about them and wouldn’t even piss on them when on fire.

This is “let them eat cake”, but somehow worse.

  28. One of the things that pisses me off most in life is that these people who are born into wealth, never have to worry about a single real thing or work hard for anything in their whole lives are the people who lead us. And they dare to speak shit to US calling US lazy when they’ve never lived in our world.

It’s funny because Tory policy of keeping wages stagnant and making the poor poorer is the reason why productivity is going down the shitter. Honest people doing honest jobs 40+ hours a week are not gonna be ultra productive when the fruits of their labour is spent mostly on fucking energy and food. Kids coming out of Uni, trade college etc are all migrating to other nations because the wages here are unacceptable. First thing I know I’m doing when I have a chance Is moving elsewhere
