Edit:
Some people are talking about NOT voting. That’s not the solution however you look at it. A vote against the government is a vote against.
Some are talking about tactical voting. My view on this is “Tactically vote for the candidate most likely to defeat the candidate you want out.” If we end up with the Tories in 45% of seats, the rest can still make a coalition, or simply stop the Tory plunder machine.
Giving up on politics does not defeat the system, it strengthens the grasp of those who want to de power the majority.
They need to be nationalised to stop people gaining profit from our payments for energy. We also need to get rid of the comparison sites as they are being paid by the suppliers out of the payments we make as well. Without these leeches our energy would be cheaper. I live in a block of 12 flats and everybody pays different amounts for energy. In the good old days before privatisation everyone paid the same price from the same supplier.
How much would nationalisation cost?
Hmm… Starmer’s Labour in action. It’s a bit shit and quite right wing if you ask me.
To be fair spending £100bn to nationalise an energy company making £10bn a year in profits would take a decade to be cashflow positive and it would make future government revenues become dependant on the continued success of fossil fuels.
What is needed is regulation around energy, not the government speculating on the purchase of energy companies.
Wasn’t there a poll saying two thirds of Tory voters supported temporary nationalization?
This issue of nationalisation is a complete red herring.
The government can just create a new firm and sell elec/gas at a price people can afford.
The existing firms would go out of business, but that’s life.
The problem is what is there to nationalise? If we have a state run supplier then they will most likely charge whatever the Ofgem cap is anyway (until the market recovers, when the cost would go down again anyway) since it’ll be run by the same people. The energy producers are the ones making the profits but they’re mostly international companies who will have no interest in being owned by a single nation.
Every single poll backs nationalisation of public services by a vast majority, extremely predictable that this miserable little cunt would dismiss it as far left anyway.
You’re not getting my vote you red tory.
Then what do labour stand for. Recent polls show the majority of the public are for it.
Can we all just agree, no party represents us, left or right? As a Conservative, none of the tories represent my views, and clearly Labour do not support your views.. We should be up in arms about this
Why? It’s clearly not working as they intended.
Mate what is the point fo you
As the Octopus boss said, the insanity is that the current regulated system prices all types of generation in line with the price of gas generated electricity, so the price paid for wind and solar goes up when gas prices rise. The electricity pricing system is completely broken
Also, there should be graded Kwh prices so you the more you use, the more you pay.
None of this would help those massive profits though, so won’t happen
I don’t think the government is good at running this shit.
I worked the census 2021 and it was a fucking shit show, overpaid everyone, completely redundant people paid 1000s to do nothing.
Why do they care about using money effectively, it’s not there’s.
Someone get this man a clip-on spine.
No spine Labour… The free market is a myth an everyone knows it.. Grow some balls Labour
And just like that labour have confirmed they are Tories in disguise.
Until this recently I have always been a sat on the fence voter, I will never vote for labour or conservative again. I’m now a green voter.
Why doesn’t the gov setup its own not-for-profit energy company and get people to switch to them? That way no nationalisation, all energy companies are still owned privately, but there is more competition in the market so prices will reduce as more people switch to the government provider.
Keir starmer continues to play ” diet tory” in the hopes of scooping up dissatisfied tory voters
Because the reality is Labour will not get in unless the press deigns to back them.
So it comes down to how the numbers crunch: it doesn’t matter how many left wing voters they lose with Starmer & his positions if they gain more by not alarming a handful of billionaires.
Labour can’t do anything if they’re not in power. Once they’re in, then you demand that they behave like an actual workers’ party (and that they break up the media), or you sink them.
Expecting them to show an actual left hand at this point, when so much of the center right are disillusioned, is fucking insane.
Check out Breakthrough Party!
Thanks for that Kier. If you’ve nothing to add, kindly fuck off.
Because the problem isn’t the suppliers it’s the fucking buying system
Fix that instead
I will say this in every thread I visit regarding this until the end of time
I despise this man so much
If he gets in and Labour then decides to replace him ?
Still waiting to see a headline to say Keir agrees with something
Bottlejob, no backbone like every other politician
Pandering to the Tory voters for sure.
red coloured tory
Ugh. Anyone would think he wants to stay in opposition, not win elections!!!
Right Keir you can fuck off now with your non-policies.
Well, he wouldn’t want anyone thinking he’s left wing would he now?
I actually now consider voting Labour for the first time ever because the tories are so shit. But sadly he is the only real alternative and the whole “I don’t have to listen to the likes of you” line he muttered at a pub landlord makes it hard to vote for him.
I HATE to split the non-Tory vote even more but he is a waste of space.

Anything to prevent real change of the system.
Keir Starmer: pretending to keep Labour relevant.
We need new political parties.
