Off-duty Garda arrested for drink driving at Tipperary checkpoint

  1. I feel sorry for the Garda that done the arresting. They’ll be labelled in the job even though they enforced the law.

  2. Good.

Fair play to the lad who pulled him up on it.
I’d say he’ll have a tough one for a while but he did the right thing.

    Edit: just read the article.
The lad was 4 times over the legal limit… There’s no real way he could send him on his way at that level.

  3. I really don’t understand how people think they can drink and drive. Having done both separately, I can’t see myself being capable of driving even after two or three drinks, and I can normally have a fair few on a night out.

  4. Those responsible for implementing the law should be following the law. Good enough for him. That guard knows the risks and most certainly the consequences.

  5. It’s great to see the Gardaí moving with the times.

I can guarantee you that fifteen years ago, he’d have been let on his way or if he’d been arrested by a Junior Gardai, the Super would have had the whole thing quashed very quickly and quietly. It certainly wouldn’t have made the national news.

    Fair play to all involved.

  6. I wonder was it the superintendent in charge of fighting drink driving like that time over in Galway when they arrested a drunk driving top cop who’s job was to stop drunk driving:

    >A Garda superintendent appointed two weeks ago to take charge of traffic management and road safety in the Garda’s western region has been arrested on suspicion of drink-driving. Conor Lally, Crime Correspondent, reports.

  7. I used to work in a bar in the 90s as a teenager and would regularly serve off-duty guards who would sit on after closing, tuck away maybe six or seven pints and then drive home. One of the cunts had the brass neck to call to our house to tell my parents I was running around with a load of stoners and ravers to try and get me into trouble. I’d often thought about getting my own back on him and regret not doing something at the time. The guys son joined the guards a few years later and was caught up in a pretty major internal afraid type scandal that I was delighted to hear about.

  8. Will it stick though and will he get a driving ban? Will the arresting guard still be working as one in a few years or in the ground after killing themselves due to work place bullying and harassment for turning on one of their own? Interested to see how it plays out.

  9. He’ll be treated at least as harshly by the courts as anyone else. The arresting guard will be fine. It’s Ireland in 2022, not New York in 1970.

  10. Be aware that Gardai are also not required to undergo drug tests.

The amount of hypocritical cunts in the Gardai is off the charts. They’ll do a lad for a joint of weed then go off the weekend shifting bags of cocaine up their nose and drink driving.

  11. I can’t see him losing his job unless he was on traffic corps or rapid response where he needs his licence. He wasn’t on duty, so he was caught on his own time, not work related. Probably be put on desk duties!
