  1. Good.

Previous political differences shouldn’t matter & I’d imagine he has signficiant experience that couled be useful.

The Garda have a significant number of institutional problems that need to be solved. Putting in a number of “new outside management” is a good way to go about that.

For all the people flying the old objection that “there are DUP people in the high ranking garda” or whatever…. Wouldn’t a hermogonised police force with experience of the north be the best way to prepare for a unified Ireland?

This is just one less barrier towards a one nation island.

  2. I view this as another brick in the groundwork of a United Ireland.

A few weeks ago a DUP counsellor tried to scaremonger by showing a Garda car going over the border. Of course this is the DUP so the idiot was posting a two week old picture but it showcases one of the sticks the DUP will try and beat a United Ireland with.

These kinds of appointment pulls the rug on that a bit.

  3. I’m sure he’s very competent, but the idea of having multiple people at the top of our intelligence and national security apparatus whose primary loyalty is to another state is far more discomforting than when there was just one.

  4. Well if this guy stands up to the vested interests in the Gardai and makes it’s more transparent all the better

  5. If this was some foreplay for a united Ireland (which it is not), the one thing I would not like to take for NI is their policing establishment lol.

Clearly we’re not taking security concerns seriously in this country.

  6. Along with Paula Hillman and Ivan Farr, that’s the third retired PSNI officer appointed by Drew Harris to an executive position in the guards.
