Surge in Flies. How do I get rid of them? More information in comments.

  1. Hello everyone,
I am new in Lithuania and facing this issue. Not sure what to do.
Maybe someone knows about the issues of these flies.
Since yesterday a lot of them have started to come in through my bedroom window, most of them stay near the light. Loads of them just fall to the ground and stay there.

About my room- I keep it clean. I have a few cans of beers (that I intend to dispose off), however I have had these cans for a week and it was not an issue until yesterday.

I keep my window open(not fully); if I close it, I cant breathe properly. These flies come in at a particular time (around 20.00). There are none by 5 am.

I am not sure what to do to get rid of them, I have heard of the fly catching strips but I couldnt find them.

Does anyone do anything in particular to get rid of them and ensure they dont enter at all (please dont tell me to close my window, like I explained before I get claustrophobic).

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks. ☺️

Edit: Thank you for all the suggestions guys.

  2. Get those strips. They are sold in almost all shops.
Right now, You can vacuum those flies into vacuum cleaner.

It is either light or air here, sadly.

  3. Long-term solution:
Install a mosquito net on your window.

    Short-term solution:
Don’t put any lights near your window or put the lamp outside so they don’t go inside your home.

  4. Either turn off the light or close your window.

Also you can try to close the blinds and open window partialy.

  5. As other people suggested best solution is a net on your window. That way, they can’t fly in and this won’t be a problem. That sticky strip is a decent solution, but I won’t catch them all, so best solution is a net.

Mayybe you can try that electric lamp that zaps them. But I don’t see a lot of people using them, probably because it’s ineffective one way or another

  6. Of course a net. Those aren’t flies, those are bugs. They’re attracted to light, and the heat of it, that’s why they follow it. From my experience when you live on the first floor, you can get a lot of those. If you haven’t applied a net, when you purchase one you have a double sided tape, so just open the window put it in the inside of the window, take of the upper peal, and apply the net. Just make sure it’s stretched enough and there aren’t any gaps, or else they’re get in again. Should fix the issue!

  7. Check if you have any food leftovers somewhere out in open. Even tiny slice of bread (or organic food) can make them appear.

Don’t ever leave leftovers in the room (even if it’s unclean dishes in the sink).

Trust me. You don’t want to find rotten apple under the cupboard and the flies, brrr.

  8. To avoid getting them inside first – either keep windows closed, or buy netting.

To get them to die and piss off – either bug sprays or sticky pads. I personally used a DIY light ( phone flashlight with glass on top with plastic wrap inside ) and added the sticky pads all around it – it helped.
