Department offered thousands of beds to Ukrainians that were already filled with refugees

  1. We have so many refugees they are losing all sense of control. They are putting them in every nook and cranny.

  2. >Up to 5,000 people were to be accommodated in 89 buildings that were included on a list given to the Department of Integration by the Department of Housing in April.

    >But when officials in Roderic O’Gorman’s Department of Children, Equality, Disability, Integration and Youth Integration (DCEDIY) examined the list, they found that half were already occupied, with its own crisis accommodation team having placed people there.

Is it any wonder we have a housing disaster when this is the level of competence from the Department of Housing? Jesus fucking wept.

  3. But we looked good. Oh I remember those days of pointing fingers at the Brits. Ministers opening their houses to refugees.
The glory days. The all or nothing days.
It’s a fucking disgrace for the media or people or anyone to expect any sort thinking/planning when they were busy grandstanding.

  4. But think of the PR! I mean, who cares about the economy, right? Loads of people will see we are taking thousands of refugees we can’t house and see how cool and woke we are!

  5. Whats the story with the 400 euro payment they were on about months ago for households?
Have a few spare rooms but unless i see people gettin paid noone sets foot in me fkn place 🙂

  6. Amazing how often this happens. You would think department’s that overlap would chat. Or a government/civil service would appoint coordinators. This minding your patch/silo or respecting others patch/silo results in untold self harm.

  7. Useless gimp. This is what happens when government policy is designed around maximum social media likes.

I am skeptical to whether this was accidental incomptence from departments. You should follow this page, they keep the spotlight on these events in the DP centres. I reckon people at the top probably knew these people were in these buildings and they’re moving ukranians into their beds while DP aslyum seekers huddle on the floor with strangers (probably for some grandstanding bullshit as mentioned by others here). Racist attacks there also by security. I was surprised to see racism is live and well at an institutional level. It’s so upsetting. I am also very skeptical about what the irish times are writing these days, very biased towards protecting people enjoying power.

  9. No issue with taking in Ukrainians whatsoever but it’s getting to the point where we’re running out of space for them and people already living here.

  10. They’re also depending on student accommodation, great not only do they lack any surge capacity, they’re about to lose a lot of it too.
