Thought I’d post this here after all the discussion yesterday about the Galway Ring Road, and the recent increase in posts and discussions on this sub about urban planning in general.
If a random youtuber understands how induced demand works, so can An Bord Pleanala.
TiL we are american tax payers.
All the money to widen the N7 and it still condenses down to 2 lanes at the Red Cow.
I dunno why this dude is being downvoted. He’s simply saying providing alternatives is a better solution to congestion.
In Europe I see, trams, buses and trains that go everywhere but also an increased use of mopeds and better implementation of cycle routes even “roads” that are cycling and walking only.
But it’s the overall approach that helps too, like across Europe you have shops on the ground floor and people live above.
We kinda have that in some areas but it isn’t implemented everywhere so you have empty towns with abandoned buildings with estates built on the outskirts of a town.
It’s small little things that eventually add up.
Like particularly in Ireland we need to reduce car usage because we are just being ripped off by an insurance industry that lies to increase prices because of fraud but when questioned about the amount of fraud it turns out they have very little insurance fraud so really they just want to make as much profit from something that is legally required when you own a car….but you can’t get rid of the car because public transport sucks ass here.
