As someone from the Northside of the Southside, this is how I see O’Connell Street.

It’s not a million miles from the truth. Parts of the city centre are really gone to fuck.
Most of the people who decry the junkies in Dublin are from Southside Dublin.
As a culchie all Dublin is a kip because it isn’t the glorious verdant paradise that is Ireland outside Dublin.
If anything I feel sorry for the down on their luck lads looking for a few euro for the hostel at the Luas stop because if they had a chance to grow up in a rural area they probably would have had better outcomes in life.
Just because people overreact to problems in Dublin doesn’t mean that the problems don’t exist.
The fact is, O’connell St is Dublins most famous St and is kind of shit.

That’s just like Talbot Street, down at the end where the train bridge crosses over head. And then the walking dead are just like you see around the Abbey Street Luas stop and that alleyway near the hotel on the corner of O’Connell St. it’s a fucking disgrace had bad the city centre is, and not just the walking dead zombie junkies, the little shit head scrotes too.
Ok, just back from first trip to the US since moving back in 2020 and amazing reflex thinking “that looks like Kensington” and there it is! K&A. Classic Philly underbelly.

I thought this was the economic model some people desired, or is it just selective to point at the people who live high in skyscrapers just down the road from this street and ignore this?
The levels of homelessness and destitution on Irish streets including outside of Dublin now reminds me of the states, you’re even starting to see people pushing trolleys loaded with junk in fucking Galway of all places. Fine Gael’s Ireland.

As a Dub, OCS and the surrounding area is an absolute disaster. Too much concentration of addiction and homeless services all in the one area leading to it.
