Science foundation Ireland debunked. €65 million euro green digital fund, open source cannot apply

  1. I don’t understand where the €60 million euro figure is coming from. Is that the required investment or is that the estimated net worth of the project as is?

Edit – that is the size of the fund from which SFI are lending from, ignore

  2. “There are 0 PhDs in citizen science”.

Citizen science isn’t really a field, it’s a mode of data gathering. There’s no PhD in survey sampling either. There *are* PhDs in Stats, Economics, Climatology, etc. that could very well incorporate citizen science as part of of the research topic (mine was supposed to, and it was funded, but the CS side of things fell through).

What exactly do you need funding for btw? The OpenLitter map seems to be up and running already. I’m sure there are maintenance costs but I’m not sure the SFI are interested in funding projects that are already completed.

  3. What the fuck would a PhD in citizen science even involve? It’s a way of collecting simple data on a large scale, not a field of science.

  4. I’ve read your post twice now, and I’m still unsure what it is you have debunked. To debunk something would be to prove it as false or dishonest; what is it that SFI have said or claimed that you can prove to be false, and where is this proof other than their apparent rejection of your project per the standards required for grant aid?

You also claim that Ireland is ‘anti-science’. Is this true? In what way is it true? How is it true relative to science funding in other countries of a similar size and society to Ireland?

  5. I’ve said it before – while your idea is admirable, your approach leaves a sour taste. You need some help with communication.
