Classic Tory Government – can’t be bothered to chase up the billions that were fraudulently claimed during the COVID crisis, but won’t think twice about denying comparative pennies to people who need that money to simply survive in this ongoing shitshow.
You took on a temp job in the spring that earned enough money to negate your UC payout for a month, but are now unemployed again – & when the cost of living has doubled or more since that time alone? Enjoy starving, plebs! /s
The Cigar chomping old Trout must have conjured up/ok’d this snidey move, nasty, horrible cunt.
People dont know what happens in the job centre.
I use to be on UC the entire point of the job centre and the DWP is to make you as stressed as possible so you give up and off yourself. They dont care, they dont offer training and if you’re not applying for enough jobs because there is no jobs (for example) then thats your fault.
And then you have sanctions, when you get sanctioned they remove all of your UC and then they offer you a crisis loan where once you get your UC back you have to pay back £60 pcm until its paid off.
Reminds me of a similar incident that happened to me when I was younger.
It was not too long after the tories had taken power and they’d really cracked down benefits and JSA claimants. I was 17 years old and living alone in a hostel having fled from an abusive home environment. I’d recently taken up a job at Bargain Booze whilst looking into starting college come September. Unfortunately I ended up leaving the job after two months of rapidly escalating behaviour from my boss, who had abused and sexually harassed me from literally my first shift after he offered to hang my coat up for me. I remember standing behind the till in my white shirt and black trousers, still stinking of Debenhams, watching in horror as he walked away with my coat pressed to his face, inhaling the scent.
After quitting I tried to sign on to Jobseekers Allowance as I was seeking a job and needed money to tide me over in the meantime. However after analysing my claim I was rejected, the rejection stating that my boss following me around the shopfloor in silence, openly sniffing my clothing and hair at the tills, cornering me in the stockroom, and refusing to let me out of the locked premise at night after my shift finished wasn’t a good enough reason for me to have quit my job. I guess I must have been naive, because I had believed that sexual harassment of a child in the workplace was more than a good enough reason for them to quit.
I was barred from signing on to JSA for three months, and over those three months I had zero income. I will never forget waking up in the morning and doing vigorous jumping jacks to warm myself up in anticipation of a bracing cold shower since I couldn’t afford to pay for gas on the gas meter. I will never forget sitting under a duvet at night trying to stay warm, reading library books by candlelight because I couldn’t spare wasting what little electricity I had on lighting. I will never forget sobbing as I walked home from the foodbank with carrier bags laden with food cutting into my hands, filled up by the extremely sympathetic foodbank volunteers, who, as far as I’m concerned, saved me.
Sometimes I wish I was a religious woman, I really, really do. At least I could take a little comfort in the knowledge that there is a hell waiting for these creatures, and that they will one day be burning it in in perpetuity. Instead I have to reconcile with the fact that there likely is no “afterlife”, and that they will never receive a comeuppance for any of the destruction they’ve wrought on people’s lives. They’ll sit back and continue to openly sneer and laugh at us, one hand digging further into our pockets, the other driving the country further to destitution, and we’ll only continue to suffer silently under them.
In May 2021 they sanctioned about 3K people. In May 2022 they sanctioned over one hundred thousand people.
I guess the “work coaches” have been told to step it up a bit with these payments due.

They love to make examples out of people like this. It keeps those who abhor the idea of those not in work getting any sort of help beyond a kick up the arse happy and justified in their opinions. The reality of benefits is awful for many but the poverty porn that was so popular a decade ago has coloured too many people’s views and there is still a concerted effort to make sure those not in work suffer. It leaves you feeling empty inside but it is not like those who vote for this will ever sympathise.
Tories seem to hate poor people innocent or otherwise. Tories seem to love rich people innocent or otherwise.
Money is their god. Their god is powerful. They worship at the alter day and night.
