This one looks over 30 cm long. I have never seen one so big.
Herpetologist here. Yes, we have two local tortoise species – the Spur-thighed tortoise (*Testudo graeca*) and the Hermann’s tortoise (*Testudo hermanni*), this one in particular belonging to the latter species. As already pointed out, any sort of disturbance towards tortoises generally all local reptile species is illegal without the proper permit. A useful tip should you find yourself helping a tortoise cross would be to always lead it towards the direction it is headed to. If you put it back on the side it came from it’s just gonna attempt to cross again once you’ve gone.
