  1. >the Tan War,

Lock and load the SF codewords – historical complexity comes in many forms including informing on fellow republicans to the Brits while collecting money which was a habit if not a policy in Sinn Fein for many, many years. It’s so off-brand it makes the whole party line about nationalism worthless.

  2. Nothin divisive about him,he achieved more than any occupied nation did at the height of the british empires power, and took as good a deal as he could get, northern Ireland was well underway to being partitioned long long before collins time, and he didnt live so we can only speculate as to what he would have done next

Before you criticize collins, look out your window,he gave you what youre looking at.

  3. Talk about mealy-mouthed.

Interesting that the Shinners are now trying to pretend they don’t hate the pro-Treaty side. The journey to becoming FF is coming to its natural conclusion by fully accepting the State.

  4. Watching SF consistantly trying to ride two horses at the same time is the funniest thing that’s happened in politics in years.

They are trying to keep two extremely different voter bases happy and every now and again something like this comes up that really tests their PR team.

  5. The article is a pretty interesting read, with the spin puts on everything. A bit patronizing to Collins (“led astray” as she says he was) and to the reader, if she thinks this will wash with people. She’s writing it for her own audience, perhaps, but not sure what the Journal is publishing it for then.

If we were ranking divisive heroes of modern Irish nationalism, there are a few to pick from. Pearse, maybe?

  6. History and time proved him right. And fucking hell, dead by 31 but look at all he accomplished. What a remarkable man.

  7. what utter fucking drivel.

its shite like this that will help to drive a wedge in this country.

Collins fought for Irish freedom and realised the Treaty was a stepping stone. one that was eventually endoresed by Dev.

SF and MAry Lou are fucking fantasists. and violent ones at that.

they seem to think they’re talking to lads in West Belfast here.
