Tourists fined for surfing up Venice’s Grand Canal

  1. it might be sensible to point out that canal water in Venice is significantly composed of sewage from the palaces’ and houses’ septic tanks, and while the brackish lagoon water kinda dilutes that, the fact that anyone would want to surf in that water, take a swim, or go anywhere close to it, is frankly beyond me.

  2. Out of interest, What actual laws were broken?

They didn’t look like they were going faster or creating any more wash than any of the other vehicles passing there (hydrofoils create basically zero wake).

Was it just the lack of insurance that caused them to be fined?
How much would it have cost for them to get insurance to use the canals?

  3. Venetian public authorities and politicians are the worst.

Charging €200 for some low quality pasta = I sleep

Use a waterboard on water = real shit
