TIL the Finnish Museum of Natural History is infested with the Chilean Recluse spider (Loxosceles laeta), widely considered to be the most venomous of its kind. No one is sure how the spider, native to South & Central America, came into the museum.

  1. We just made a family decision to avoid going to Helsinki this year. Or rather: every year from now on… until everything is burned down. Twice!

  2. While that is interesting and curious, I don’t get the reactions. People face Finnish forests every day in the summer, risking to get bitten by ticks, who are widely known to carry horrible diseases. Yet, we take our odds, protect ourselves with long sleeves and hope for the best.

People who do get bitten and had to remove ticks buried into their skins still go into the forests.
