While this is rather depressing, I think the fact an ukrainian newspaper can write about the problematic situations in the ukrainian army is a good sign of freedom of press in Ukraine.
Interesting article, and despite the title doesn’t read like a pro-Russian hit piece.
How the fuck does a polish gangster end up as a commander for a foreign legion unit? And why the fuck are his superiors enabling this behavior. What a bizarre read. In the end only the Ukrainian side suffers by these decisions. International legion fighters dying, quieting.. Sad state of affairs.
While i cant comment on the accusations about other things….Being asked to fight in conditions that might kill you is what usually happens in war.I mean what did they expect? To be allowed to fall back as soon as Russian bullets/shells came their way?
It guess it should be expected that some incompetents find their way to authority in an extremely messy situation like this.
It is also excellent that it can be freely reported on by domestic media, and (hopefully) swift action by senior officials take place to rectify the situation. I’m sure this will be heard in the right places, they won’t want foreign volunteers to leave in droves due to the actions of a handful of incompetents.
This guy must be under protection of Ukrainian intelligence. He was a high profile crown witness in Poland that testified against his gang accomplices, ran away to Ukraine in 2014 because he was about to be called before parliament commission to testify about connections of previous Polish government (Donald Tusk party) politicians with criminal world.
Poland requested his extradition in 2017, but Ukraine refused, supposedly wanting to try him themselves first for crimes he did there. In 2020 he accused a wife of current Polish Minister of Justice of connections to criminals. In 2021 Ukrainians let him go on a $2,500 bail after being caught with automatic weapons and explosives. Now he resurfaces as commander of Ukrainian Foreign Legion with colonel insignia and apparently is allowed to continue his criminal activity under protection of Ukrainian intelligence.
