  1. What’s your location, and what’s the issue – annoying sound or flashlights?

Is it a kind of mountain resort?

  2. Either way – they get traffic jam during the day, or construction noise during the night – they WILL complain.

  3. Maybe there was some emergency, like broken pipe, which had to be fixed asap.

  4. Maybe it is road cleaning? Lage vehicle with a broom attached cleans the site of the street. I have seen (and heard it) a couple of times in my town.

  5. I think this is road work? it’s actually a good idea. Working at night helps to finish the road faster and it allows to have the road open during day rush hours.

  6. If they’re doing this at this hour it is probably that they have to (emergency, lower temperature, avoiding traffic blockage).

  8. CONTEXT AND EXPLANATIONS

(confirmed in the morning it is just the replacement of asphalt, nothing urgent). The video does not present the true level of the noise, it was literally jackhammers and asphalt cutters at about 30m away from my window.

The road I am talking about is with two lanes on each direction, divided by an island of grass and trees, and one lane is arranged as a parking, so traffic ALWAYS goes on just one lane per direction. This morning, there were no cars parked and traffic was using the parking designated area, while workers were placing a new layer of asphalt on the normal traffic lane, meaning there was no congestion.

There were many people telling me (on the post but also in private) I should simply shut up or move away because it is completely normal to use jackhammers and asphalt cutters at 2 in the night “for the good of the majority” that needs to go to work in the morning. I also need to go to work and I need my sleep, and the sleep is more important than an eventual congestion that happens anyway for a multitude of reasons, my buses are always late (again, it was Not the case here).

Others said that it is because the workers need to be protected from the sun, which I completely agree with, but why not do it in the evening and early hours? Why at 2 in the night? And if so, why not wait 3 days and work when the heat goes down. It’s been 20 degrees for a couple weeks now, only today and in the weekend it will be hot…

So tell me again, now having more info about this, is it so normal and I should just suck it up? I believe it is unfair.

  9. Here’s their website https://zdmk.krakow.pl/ , I think the first news might even be about this.

And yes, like others said, don’t like it then move out. It’s a city, there will always be noise at night and that’s the price you pay for it.

  10. I’m from Warsaw and from my experience most of the road works happens during the day (usually they start at early morning hours)
However, from my experience living in other big cities (London, Toronto, Berlin), most countries tend to do this kind of work overnight.
