Two Dublin local authorities issued zero dog fouling fines last year

Donegal, Laois, Longford, Mayo, Roscommon, Waterford, Wexford and Wicklow did not provide figures on their dog fouling fines to the NCBI. Under the Litter Pollution Act it is an offence for a person in charge of a dog to allow the dog foul public spaces without removing and disposing of it “in a sanitary manner”. Local authorities have the power to issue on-the-spot fines of €150 while cases which go to court can see a maximum fine of €4,000.

6. Have often wondered who or how do people get a fine for not picking up dog shit……like do they wait in the bushes and pop out like ahhh haaa I got you, now pay up because you know shit happens.

   More chance of giving a fine to someone with their feet on the seats of a dart then for someone not picking up dog poop

9. Literally just watched a woman stand over her dog having a shit, started to pull out a plastic bag from her pocket while traffic was passing then when she thought nobody was looking, put the bag back in the pocket and walked off leaving said shit in the path.

11. I vote for all dog dna being recorded in a database when they get registered. Then if any shit is found it can be tested and a fine issued. I think they were trialling something like this in Leitrim.

13. I used to live next to a park with a river, a hedge separated the river from a walking path. Dog owners would bag it up and launch it over the hedge often snagging on branches or landing in the river. Was like trees full of shite decorations dangling down and the river was full of plastic. There were several bins around …

14. There’s some prick that picks up the dog shit and ties the bag to tree branches around my local park

15. Maybe if we sent them a photo and location every time we spotted it we could shame / annoy them into action

16. There should be a national website where members of the public can upload photos of other people not picking up after their dog.

    Shame people as a deterrent.

17. My town has signs everywhere for dog fouling fines but the council literally has 1 bin in the town lol

18. My area is wrecked since all the dogs people got during the pandemic without any intention of learning to look after them. Shite everywhere and constantly being left out all day and night in back gardens barking their fucking heads off now people are back in work and have lost interest
