‘The first step in a long journey’: The pioneering British town which has committed to veganism

  1. My son is taking part in a social experiment where he has to wear a t-shirt saying “GO VEGAN” for 2 weeks and see how people react.

So far, he has been punched, spit on and a bottle thrown at him!

I’m curious to see what happens when he goes outside.

  2. This is great, I hadn’t heard of this kind of treaty for towns before. Hope more in the UK might adopt it in the near future.

  3. The council sends out flyers, arranges a few events that existing vegans turn up to, the rest of the town carries on with their lives.

It still doesn’t beat Derby City Council’s stunning action of declaring Derby a nuclear free city, forgetting they had 2 licensed nuclear facilities. They even put up an NFC signs outside the 2 facilities.

  4. Switching away from a plant-based diet is the single most effective way one person can ensure damage to the environment.

Climate change isn’t real, ignore the recent heat.

  5. New Towns signs being put up:

    ‘Welcome to Haywards Heath.

We’re Vegan’s now you know and it’s been so great for us, let us tell you more abou….’

    [turns car around]

  6. Manufactured vegan food is mostly crap though and I have tried a lot of it to reduce meat consumption. Many vegan cheese has a lot of fat, without any nutritional value, and same with the meat free meats.

  7. Reminds me a bit of my local Labour Party branch, during Fairtrade Fortnight we agreed to only use Fairtrade products at our social events. A few months later at the next social event there was some tea, coffee and chocolates sadly not one item was branded Fairtrade.

    Wonderful hot air.

I’m a hypocrite, I supported the motion yet I rarely buy Fairtrade.

  8. But all get malnourished because they can’t afford the supplements they need being vegan thanks to cost of energy bills getting stupidly high
