The leader of the Greek Cypriot side, Anastasiades, wants to continue the negotiations, which he left in Crans Montana, Switzerland in 2017, from where they left off and on the basis of federation.
Would someone be able to clarify how accurate these sources are? I do believe that an annexation process is going on but I would be surprised if it happens now.
The north is already de facto annexed by Turkey since 74.
Wait… what would change ? Will there still be a fake government called TRNC ?
Because if the pseudo TRNC will still exist and Turkey won’t leave… what will change ? I’m actually curious because that sounds ridiculous… 😅
Taking Cevheri Güven as a reliable source lol
Would such move win him votes? Because Turkey gains nothing from doing this.
Turkey already has full control of the north and they don’t gain anything by drawing attention to this fact, especially at this time when such move will remind everybody of the similarities of the Turkish occupation of Cyprus with that of Ukraine by Russia.
I don’t think he will do this, unless he is extremely desperate.
I gurantee that not even he is stupid/desperate enough to do that.
That’s a massive dick move
I hope someone does something, anything, I don’t care who, take the whole island, don’t, annex this and that and there and everywhere, put a border in your colon, talk about nonsense, bifedarezonaldoodookaka e.t.c
anything is better than this limbo for 50 years, then at least we can know where we are at
Normally i would dismiss such a claim as baseless. But i cannot shake off the idea, that after Turkey accepted Nato bids of Sweden and Finland, that some shady deal might have been discussed, hope im wrong.
Erdogan might be a dictator, but stupid he is not, and legacy is what he cares about, much like Hagia Sophia and Cyprus would probably gift him the failing election. A deal could have happened like this:
Nato: Turkey, why are you being a D**k about Sweden and Finland?
Turkey: they support terror, because they don’t do as i say (the irony)
Nato: you really need to stop your bull, amd get on board here
Turkey: ok ok, let them listen to me more, and while im at it, let me annexe N. Cyprus and you guys sit back and stay silent, think of big bad Putin, its the lesser evil you know….hellooo
Nato: erm..hmm….Putin is bad and a little more pressing right now… but surely we can’t….hmmm
Turkey: come on, you know im right, its a little island anyway, talking of islands, Greece has….
Nato: don’t even think about it, we can think of N. Cyprus, but Greece is off limits, got it?
Turkey: i joke i joke, ok you think
Lol im joking, but the west is so scared of Putin right now, and Turkey has a history of exploiting world crises, that i cannot dismiss this scenario sadly. I hope im wrong, as nothing can be worse than this crap. I have family in both sides as i am mixed, but if this happened, i would never set foot in the occupied side again! I guess time will tell now.
He will join the opening ceremony of a few roads and probably new palace for Ers.
You can’t annex what is already annexed
That will be the end of both erdogan and turkey because Greece and Cyprus will have to go to war if that happens and I think its a pretty clear at this point that the balance of power is no longer in turkeys favor especially in terms of air superiority.
Another thing turkey seems to be forgetting is that this is no longer 1974 Cyprus where we were in the middle of a civil war/american/british intervention in the conflict and where the National Guard was sent to fight with (In some instances), no bullets.
The little pseudo army in the north though it may have the numbers, has neither the skill nor the technology to fight even the Cypriot National Guard. E.g. Cypriot retrofitted T-80s vs turkish m60 tank from the early 60s, who is really going to win that fight?
I’m not Cypriot and know very little about the geopolitical context. just visited Cyprus and read a bit about the turkish issue.
im just wondering, what are the Turkish interests in Cyprus ?
