I don’t know, call me stupid, but surely if they paid the right money they would have found plenty of people willing to do the work?
Bad for GDP but good for the environment, it might also help stop new farms opening up. They are a disaster thanks to sea lice, mass escapes leading to dilution in the genetic stock of wild salmon, and the amount of waste the farmed salmon produce. That aside, it is another example of how Brexit is bad for businesses and the sunlit uplands are decades away.
Just had a search. The average ‘fish operative’ position seems to pay £10 p/h. Seems a long way short of the articles ‘£36,000 average salary’ boast.
