Cost of living: Government to simplify broadband access

  1. I thought one of the reasons we didn’t want to vote Corbyn was that he would give the plebs cheaper internet? So now the Conservatives support that?

Just to clarify: I did vote Labour in 2019

  2. >”I urge anyone concerned about falling behind on payments to contact their supplier to see what support is available,” – Nadine Dorries

What a great bit of advice…

  3. Another empty gesture, from the party that wrote the book on them. Besides, what use is broadband access if the equipment needed to access it doesn’t have power.

  4. I’m on BTs social tariff – the initial signing up process was pretty straight forward, however the renewal after 12 months was a bit of a nightmare – their systems insisted I was no longer eligible, so I was automatically moved onto the more expensive tariff. The “only” solution was to let my 12 month contract come to an end, move onto the rolling monthly contract (at the higher rate), cancel it, and then apply again for the social tariff.

Did that and I was magically approved, and my account credited to cover the partial charges that were incurred. From speaking to their admittedly very good customer service team it’s a common problem.

If the UC Journal system worked anywhere near the way it was originally intended you’d be able to apply via it – I’m not holding my breath for it ever reaching such levels of usefulness!
