Why does India come before Japan with a lower rank?
China allows 34 foreign movies a year. The size of the market is so vast it imposes effective censorship on US movies, as the studios need to stay in favour with the CCP.
Look at Top Gun. Maverick’s jacket from the original has the Taiwanese flag removed in the sequel.

China may have more spending power among its population but isn’t Bollywood still 2nd in revenue worldwide after Hollywood?
im completely pulling this out of my ass but i have a feeling Germany would have ranked higher two decades ago, cinema sort of lost is appeal, but I guess its the same everywhere with streaming being this available. But also German movies by and large are trash, sadly. This is what happens when you kill all the jews
China is censoring western film and indian/japanese domestic film/animation industries are dominating their markets.. So basically USA>UK>SK>France>Germany are big 5.

a shame, national films are so low in countries like Russia, Spain or Italy we should value our national languages more. They are dubbed in those countries anyway so it’s even worse
