ECB to redesign euro banknotes by 2024

  1. “The redesign process will start with the creation of focus groups, tasked with gathering opinions from people across the euro area on possible themes for the future euro banknotes.”

  2. LOL, they just finished releasing their newest design and they are also pushing to create an ECB-backed digital Euro, but they are also wasting resources to make yet another redesign that some people won’t even see because cash usage is dropping every day.

This is just stupid and useless federalist bullshit.

  3. A bit pointless, but would love if they put actual people or nature or at least real constructions. Sadly, as people have the desperate need for validation by having someone from their country on the banknotes, it will not happen.

  4. Lemme guess, 200€ will be phased out like the good ol’ 500€ to promote the use of newly introduced digital euro.

Plastic banknotes to replace paper-cotton mix. (Already happened in Canada, UK and old Romanian lei, more endurable)

Fancy holograms here and there, maybe includes arabic and chinese script next to latin/greek/cyrillic “to be more inclusive for everyone from all backgrounds”

Least possibly some revolutionary design (like square banknotes) or vertical design (as in CHF, old Pesetas or Venezuelan Bolivars – they look good imo)

Maybe some QR code for machine readability, for serial number or as a security feature etc.

  5. Its the coins that need a redesign imo. Compared the british coins, the euro coins are tragic. All very similar, plain and not very user friendly.

Although coins are probably on their way out so…

  6. Finally! Hope they will chose something less bland. The current banknotes are incredibly ugly and non-interesting. Look at Israel, New Zealand, Australia or even the old Dutch Guilder. Make it beautiful and something Europeans can be proud of!
