NATO posture

That’s a bit weird to me – Poland, for example, has a permanent presence in Latvia, yet here it doesn’t show anything. Does it only show countries that aren’t bordering Russia?

When it comes to Enhanced Forward Presence, Poland is the only country that is host and also a contributor, but it’s not shown here at all.

Also Tailored Forward Presence, where Poland has 230 troops in Romania afaik

  2. > Europe should do more. Our current defense spending is on par with China but wasted on duplication and inefficiency. A European army would be a win for the taxpayer first and foremost

    I still agree

  3. Is this a good troop number?

50k troops in support seems kind of small between baltics/Poland/Romania.

I’m guessing these numbers will quickly be rein-enforced if Russia does take any military action.

  4. This map certainly seems wrong. And no source is mentioned on it for us to verify, which doesn’t help its credibility. I don’t know if you got the other countries right but I’m pretty sure France has a few hundreds troops in Estonia in the British-led NATO battlegroup (there were 300 before the invasion and 500 French troops there now). France also certainly has more than 300 on the Romanian front. It is the NATO battlegroup it leads. 300 Alpine Hunters from the 27th Mountain Infantry Brigade as well as various equipment were originally deployed on short-notice a few hours after the Russian invasion and that’s probably what’s represented. But the number of troops was raised to 500 a few days later and there has been further human and material reinforcements sent since then and more to come since the plan is a permanent brigade-sized French unit in Romania. 300 is the number of Belgian troops deployed late February to join the French. I remember that one. I don’t know if Belgium deployed more men to Romania since then but it is likely.

Edit: Just saw you linked the source in the comments. The map is from Atlantic Concil (it’s a “think tank” for those who don’t know) and dates back to May. But even in May, it was wrong. France had more troops than what’s represented on the map in the British-led battlegroup in Estonia alone.

  5. I think this map is a bit misleading. Even Croatia which is a small country has units in Hungary, Kosovo, Poland and Lithuania and that is just in Europe.

  6. America should send us some more troops. Why spend such astronomical amounts of money on the military and then not put it where they are needed the most?

  7. Denmark is looking for some new land with a special surprise operation. I always wanted to go to st Petersburg
