Seven Trent lose near on 450milliom litres of water a day due to their crappy infrastructure. But once again, it’s Joe Public that need to take responsibility, not the corporations or organisations.
It’ll be over soon- we’ll be back to floods and extreme storms before you know it
Why do I feel a big hike in water bill’s coming ‘to help’ water companies stop the leak’s robbing bastard’s
Fuck. That.
I will not be lectured to about my usage of anything while water companies are sitting on leaky infrastructure and using me as a cash machine.
I’ve got a water meter anyway, so I’m paying for every litre. I shall use precisely what I please.
Whilst the infrastructure in The UK is an absolute joke, laughable, disgraceful and just pathetic (par for the course), I agree that perhaps the average person should/could reduce their water use.
I know of friends who leave the tap running when brushing their teeth, just letting the water rush down the sink. During a shower they’ll soap themselves up with the water just running. They’ll wash a glass with 20 litres of water instead of getting the sponge wet, wiping the glass down and giving it a quick rinse.
We can always be more responsible.
As a tap water drinker should I buy a couple litres of bottlee water in case things get quite bad?
Water companies must fix their leaks, reservoirs, and wasteful ways to provide the service they have a licence for.
FTFY.
I think we all are doing our bit, but this is victim blaming. The water companies have built no new reservoirs in nearly 40 years. Without even checking, I can guarantee the population and number of buildings is higher now than that point. They lose 25% of all water through leaks. They have also polluted most of our waterways through dumping untreated shit into it.
Yes we can all do a little more, but let’s remember who is responsible for the vast share of the problem…and are making huge sums whilst doing it!
Except Rishi Sunak who get’s to build a pool ofc
Let’s start with golf courses who are watering their massive lawns in a drought.
No, water companies sort out leakes and stop selling off our reservoirs… THEY ARE TO BLAME NOT US
I feel like nothing is going to be done and soon we’ll be dying of thirst in a scorched land whilst water companies continue to lecture us about not using too much water.
That this may come as a revelation to some is what shocks me. I’ve always been careful with the water I use.
So, according to the chart in that article 2% of household water gets used on “garden and car”, and 22% gets used on ‘toilet’.
So by introducing a hosepipe ban that’s 2% we can possibly save. Wouldn’t it be better to have a “flushing wee’s” ban?
Or build more reservoirs.
There hasn’t been a new one built in this country since the 90’s, almost 30 years.
And our population has increased by approximately 18% in that time frame. So obviously we don’t have enough.
It’s not climate change’s fault, it’s ours.
Absolutely fucking not. There’s a been a burst pipe in my neighbourhood for 2 days, it’s pushed up the pavement and flooded the road.
How about YOU make CEO’s and those responsible pull their fucking weight. Expert.
Ah yeah blame it on the little man who’s responsible for 5% of use. Ignore the leaks that are responsible for 25%.
Can you see where this is going, some parts of the states they charge people $250 pm for water those days are coming to the UK there literally goin to rob us of everything.. water will be the next huge increase..
When water companies stop losing billions of litres of water every day – then they can ask people to use less.
Until then? No fucking way.
How about the experts fuck off and stop blaming the public for things corporations cause
Global warming? The public needs to stop driving cars, ignore the factories and coal plants
Pollution? Everyone needs to recycle more, ignore Asia dumping fuckloads of plastic into the sea
Drought? Cant be the water companies leaking trillions it MUST be the hosepipes
Tell that to cunts who are building themselves private swimming pools.
There’s a leak, on a country road that has been pissing water for nearly 5 years. I’ve never seen the road dry. I’ve reported it more times than I can remember but it’s never been repaired. Even during this “drought” that part of road is wet. But yeah, I’ll skip showering …
Most people in this country are very wasteful with water. We have one of the highest per capita uses of water in Europe.
There are things the water companies should improve on leak management and the government should start improving more reservoirs but we also have a part to play as consumers to use a precious and finite resource more responsibly.
Some big companies spew waste into our rivers and countryside, but I don’t use that as an excuse to litter.
Some big companies are have teams of people ready to extract every penny someone owns out of them and provide shoddy service, but I don’t use that as an excuse to treat people badly.
Some companies have leaky water pipes which create a huge amount of loss, but I don’t use that as an excuse not to do my bit and save water where possible.
I’d rather go by the phrase
‘Be the change you want to see in the world.’
Or think of is this way…
‘It’s only a few litres of water’ say 70 million individuals.
Some will disagree. I want big companies to do more. But if we end up in some serious drought conditions and need bottled water carted to households etc, I want to know that I’ve tried my hardest to mitigate my contribution to that.
Unless you’re Rishi Sunak. Then it’s ok. Do what you want.
Maybe golf clubs should cut first. I drive past Bowood golf club in Wiltshire and the road leading up to Derry hill is always coated in water running from the course.
Yeah I must rethink how I use water as an individual. hmm am I going to stop bathing ? no, am I going to stop drinking water? No, fuck there we go I thought about it.
We’re already careful. Don’t even consider myself an environmentally minded person, just a bi-product of not growing up with much, you tend to not take things for granted and don’t like being wasteful.
Can the water companies say the same? When at least 20% is being wasted due to leaks while they pay their executives massive salaries out the arse maybe people who live in glass houses should not throw stones.
No new reservoirs in 31 years. So where has the money gone (like we have to guess)
Same as every other sector facing problems you can only kick a can so often
^(Also fuck golf)
I think England and Wales should reconsider why they’re the only countries *in the world* with privatised water companies.
I actually got ‘told off’ of sorts, I kid you not, by my water supplier for not using enough water.
They rang me up and said they are concerned I am using so little water for what they expect and they had someone come out to check my meter. When it was correct, they said they find it very unusual and the customer rep calling me sounded very judgmental about it.
Twats want me to line their pockets. Fuck em.
How many times must the blame be projected onto the consumers. Fuck you. I’m not rethinking shit
This country is so pathetic.
Instead of trying to solve our problems with engineering and science, we are told to resign ourselves to being told by modern-day Puritans that we must make do with less, lest we sin against Mother Gaia.
Britain is *not* a water-poor country, it is an infrastructure-poor country. And that’s thanks to political decisions and good old NIMBYism.
Nah.
Y’all are scalping us for every fucking penny, you take care of it.
Cunts.
You’re all going to vote in whichever way gets rid of a Tory MP, right?
Poor people, watch your water use.
Please ignore my swimming pools and fountains.
