is there a way to make this kind of window stay open? The wind blows it closed.

  1. There should be a stopper down where the metal rod is. There are few different types so maybe if you can take a picture of it someone can tell you how.

But generally there is a part you can move to lock it in place

  2. It’s usually either the metal rod assembly in between windows looking something like you can see down in this picture, where it limits how much you can open and sometimes can be locked in open position. Or in some better ones you just turn the handle in “closed” position and it locks the window in that position.

  3. Very often the window handle is also a lock to keep it open. Try if the window locks in place if you turn the handle to closed position while the window is open. It also might not have this mechanism.

  4. I have a window pretty similar to that and I just figured out why they have these strips on the bottom. Basically they came with 2 plastic strips from front to back which stop the window from closing without using slight force.

  5. As some others have said, the key is in the mechanism that attaches the windows together. I have a very old system where there is just an L shaped metal rod that I can push into the system to block the movement of the connecting rod. Newer windows can have a plastic latch to set the correct position. That said, the simplest solution may be to push some cardboard under the window.

  6. Depends where you are. If you are in the Tampere region, then the correct tool is either Moro or Tamperelainen jammed between the frame and the bottom of the window.
