I’m not a veggie/vegan but need to source the best meat free or vegan sausages in Ireland, any recommendations?

  1. Quorn products (bright orange packaging) is incredible, they do everything, including sausages. It’s so good you wouldn’t know it wasn’t meat.

  2. You’re looking for crap combined with grains and some fat and veg.

Ask where can I get crap combined with grains and some fat and veg.

  3. Wife is vegan, I am not. As such I am eating both vegan and non-vegan products thereby retaining my taste for meat – which vegans eventually lose over time. A lot of vegan alternatives are not at the races, but the best alternative so far are from Denny’s. Not 100%, but pretty close.

  4. Agree on Denny in terms of sausages.

Quorn for the chicken and broccoli escalopes and peppered steaks (use them as burgers).

    Ruddy’s for white pudding.

Denny do good burgers also and the Linda McCartney frozen mozzarella burgers are good

  5. All of Linda McCartney’s food for the realest meat tasting products.

Deny’s are nice too. Quorns are fairly shite.

There’s loads of other sausages like sweet potato etc too if your into that. In lidl and SuperValu, Dunnes etc

  6. Lidl veggie burgers are the best I’ve ever had but I’ve not had their sausages. If they’re half as good as the burgers though…

They also do an excellent vegan pizza range!

(Source – dairy and egg free due to stomach problems)

  7. Another vote for Denny’s. I’m a meat eater but my mrs is a vegetarian. She’s tried pretty much everything and reckons Denny’s. I would always have a bite of hers myself to they’re pretty good

  8. I’ve tried nearly all the sausages mentioned here. I think Denny’s are OKish, they have a horrible skin that feels like plastic when they are cooked. Lidl’s own brand are a similar taste but better. Linda McCartneys are much drier and a bit bland, but they are cheap and high in protein and low in calories. All the boutique brands ones are hit and miss. However, my favourite is an absolutely amazing Cumberland sausage by a brand called Cauldron. I’ve seen them in Tesco and Supervalu and pick up 2 or 3 pack whenever I see them.

  9. Three options I recommend depending on circumstances.

Denny’s are less healthy (too much coconut oil which is saturated and some more additives) but sublime meat-like flavour and go well on a BBQ.

On the flip side, Linda McCartney’s are much healthier, but somewhat drier (much less fat). Don’t do as well as Denny’s on a BBQ, but still fantastic with beans for breakfast.

Lastly, Lidl’s Vemondo sausages are not as fatty as Denny’s and not as dry as Linda’s. Health-wise they’re also between the two. They perform adequately in most situations without excelling.

To sum up: if you’re watching the cholesterol intake, go for Linda McCartney. If you prioritise flavour, go for either Denny’s or Vemondo. You won’t be disappointed.

  10. Reiterating what a lot of people have said but Rudd’s sausages are great as part of other dishes – we do a very simple sausage pasta dish with them.

Denny’s are a great breakfast sausage for your typical fry. Their burgers are quiet nice as well and are quite a nice substitute in a roast dinner with gravy.

I’ve only been back in Ireland 6 months but the vegan stuff seems to be getting better and better. I’d argue Quorn is the worst of the options available (tbf not that I’ve tried loads)

  11. I know some girls with a flat in cork that might be able to help you out, but they might charge you a consultation fee.
