My great grandfather, Francis “Frank” Leszczewicz, came to the United States in June 1914.
I recently found his immigration documents that list his place of birth, last permanent residence, and fathers address. As far as I am able to make out:
Place of birth: Leskzensti
Last permanent residence: Leszczyucti
Fathers address: Leszczyucti gov. Wilno
All of the other documents I can find from my great grandfather are from the late 20’s or later and say that he is from Wilno Poland, so this is the only document that has specific town names. However as I have been learning, this area has been through A LOT from WWI up through pretty much WWII.
Does how I read the cursive look right? Do these look like the names of Polish towns or are they horribly misspelled beyond recognition?
I would love to be able to pin point these on a modern day map but understand that they might not even exist anymore.
Also as I said his name was Francis Leszczewicz but all his documents while he was traveling to the US have him listed as “Frantz Lesczewicz”. I assume he had a Polish spelling of Francis but I don’t think that’s Frantz. I am assuming that is all just misspellings, I am just surprised that I almost missed that until I saw his entry card documented with his naturalization papers so I was able to match up all the dates, location, ship names etc. to make sure it was the same person.
Anyway, thanks for any help anyone is able to provide.
Maybe the city is Leszczyniaki? Wiki says it’s now part of Wilno.
I can’t help much with the place, but his name would be most likely Franciszek.
Does my eyes fcked up? In nationality I see „Russia”, also in place of birth after some unreadable word it says Russia
