Sinterklaas, or Sint-Nicolaas is a legendary figure based on Saint Nicholas, patron saint of children. Other Dutch names for the figure include De Sint (“The Saint”), De Goede Sint (“The Good Saint”) and De Goedheiligman (“The Good Holy Man”). Many descendants and cognates of “Sinterklaas” or “Saint Nicholas” in other languages are also used in the Low Countries, nearby regions and former Dutch colonies.
If Saint Nicolas would indeed pass by every chimney in one night by means of horse, he would almost instantly combust due to air friction.
Just saying…
St. Nicholas will forever be my favorite Saint, he went and punched Arius in the face, in front of the emperor, (an offense punishable by death) because he “knew no other way to get his point to Arius”
Arius being the father of Arianism (The idea that Christ was a created being, not Aryanism, the Nazi ideology)
St. Nicholas, payer of dowries, puncher of Arius
Waiting for a visit by Nicholas, but getting visited by Rupert..
A.k.a Santa Claus
Ty for using a pic of the real Sinterklaas!
In Greece saint Nicholas is the saint of seamen
Romanians celebrate on the 6th
In Poland 6th in the morning kids finding something in their boots
Cheers from Milwaukee, WI, USA! We love St. Nick in these parts.
Kde je čert?
Was in Bari two weeks ago, I hope they’re having a good time ! (the relics of the saint are there, I mean mostly ,a french guy stole a finger 200 years ago and now we have some in eastern france)
Is that beard real?
I watched St. Nicholas as a movie.
Happy St. Nicholas from Spain. Still don’t know why he’s supposed to come from here (or so I was told in the NL).

[Not Just Bikes has a good YouTube video about the festivities.](https://youtu.be/Yvkf0uyXjeA)
Wait the fifth? Isn’t it tomorrow? Today is notorious Krampus Tag.
We also party it on Alsace

On the 5th? In Germany it’s on the 6th
Bram!
Happy Sinterklaas Day to all Dutch redditors here !
Can’t wait to eat my St. Niklaus mandarines tomorrow 🙂
He looks more like a pope than the Christmas man.
Where is Black Pete?
Belgians who celebrate on the 6th
Sailing from Spain with his ~~black slaves~~ colorful helpers, all called Piet, because he has not time to learn no names.
The OG Sint.
He looks philosophically calm.
Romanians celebrate it tomorrow, but he brings candy or tears to the Romanian kids tonight. Do parents in your country put discipline wands in their kids shoes if they were naughty like in Romania? https://maricelapotoc.eu/saint-nicholas-the-punisher-of-naughty-romanian-kids/
