  1. When you check the actual judgement as to why HMRC lost is

They refused to consider any alternatives even just the most basic no cost question starting point of asking of how would you approach managing the travel aspects of this job.

The job he already was doing had similar travel requirements and they had adjusted the role accordingly. Especially of note is that any travel requirement for visits to companies always had two agents go and only after thorough risk assessments and planning; they had already for his current role been pairing him up with someone who does drive to do the same visits as the senior role would have. They refused to consider adjustments for the senior role however.

The judgement also gives som examples of adjustments that also could have been explored first; however nothing was done by HMRC.

So yeah good on him for challenging HMRC and winning.

  2. This is the one thing HR/legal departments are meant to be useful for. They’re meant to spot when bosses are doing stuff which will get the company sued, and rugby tackle them before they can.

This really sounds like basic stuff the bosses messed up.
