Forest of Dean: Millionaire jailed over unauthorised ‘man cave’

  1. So he goes to prison where we have to feed and clothe the man for 6 weeks at the cost of the British tax payer when you could have just sent a man round to say do this, that or that to make it safe.

Can we have pictures of what made the structure so unsafe?

  2. Hmm, so it takes about 6 years to get to the stage where there are real consequences. So if I turn my garage into a self contained holiday cottage, I’ve got 6 years to make my investment back. That’s potentially worth doing.

  3. Forget prison. The council should fine him 1% the value of the property every week until he can demonstrate that the building has been restored to it’s previous condition.

  4. Oh wow, that’s excellent news.

It’s really disingenuous to say he was jailed over a man cave – he was sentenced for contempt of court, a rightfully serious offence. Way too many people feel that the rules don’t apply to them and take the piss out of our justice system.

This should be a stark reminder that when the courts order you to do something, it’s not optional, and not something you can simply buy your way out of.

  5. What happens after he finishes servicing his sentence?
Do they knock it down then or Do they have to give him with another order to knock it down, and then just put them in prison again If he doesn’t comply?,

Does this mean he could just spend the rest of his life in prison, while the extension stays there?
