20.08.22 – German Eurofighters intercepted a russian formation in the “baltic states” consisting of 1 Iljushin Il-62 “Classic” and 5 Mig-31 “Foxhound”. Later, 2 SU-27 “Flanker” were added as escort. The German Air Force released no further information.

  1. What does it mean intercepted? Like they just joined their formation mid flight or actually put some pressure to stop violating NATO airspace?

  2. Why would they violate another country’s airspace with an IL-62? That’s basically a passenger liner. I know the Russian air force use them but still.
