Anybody know if there would be planning restrictions on building an earthship in ireland, on your own land?

ie if i were to purchase an empty site, am i restricted with what i build on top of it or how does it work?

EDIT: Sorry, should’ve mentioned for anybody out of the loop: [an earthship](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wgUkjbMhF18) is a sort of self-sustainable off grid home.

  1. Planning laws are very restrictive here, people getting shot down for perfectly fine houses over bs reasons, what chance has an earthship whatever that is.

  2. You’ll need to clear it through planning permission. If you read the papers though it looks like a little brown envelope will let you build whatever the fuck ya want. Those Feckers

  3. Don’t many earth ships cost more of a carbon foot print than an ordinary home?

    Some are monstrosities.

    You’d need planning permission OP.

  4. I’d be interested to know if it’s even legal to build a structure intended for living in but not connected to mains water or power. I don’t think you’d progress through the planning stages without those things in place.

  5. You won’t get planning. Earthships, like many alternate dwellings do not meet irish building regs. You could make a sort if earthshippish house. but it has to meet regs If you want to produce your own water/power then its really unlikely you will get pp.

This is not a coincidence btw housing crises are hard work to make and maintain.

  6. I’ve investigated this question myself and it seems that an Earthship would be nearly impossible to get planning permission for. Something similar that you can get permission for is cob houses. So you might look into that instead.
