I know a fair few drivers. Pay has got little to do with it, it’s more terms/conditions and the fact the government wants to erode pensions.
To anyone who thinks it’s an easy job – could you pass the psychometrics, memorise signals and stations, every crossing, every detail of a route and operate a train loaded with 600 passengers at 125 miles per hour? Could you deal with the fact that at some point you will collide with a person? The pay they get is appropriate for what they do and the fact that the government wants to fuck with railway safety is appalling.
