Could we train crows to pick up rubbish and fly it in to the bin?

  1. Fella did a Ted talk years ago on something like this, he designed a food dispenser that would spit out pellets in exchange for tokens. He said it could be adapted for use with litter, and then crows would essentially teach each other. Don’t think anything came from the idea

  2. In a small area maybe, in a wider area probably not.
    Crows are pretty smart.
Once they figure out they’re getting treats for bringing litter they’ll find the easiest source of litter.

So they’ll hoke it out of other bins instead of flying all over the place looking for it.

  3. **Hans Forsberg** has been training magpies to collect various bits of rubbish, even cans.. in exchange for treats.

His YouTube Channel is as much about the mechanical challenges and also modifying an animal’s natural behaviour. Fascinating stuff.

His output is often stolen and turns up on Reddit quite a bit as animated GIFs, karma farming etc..

  4. It would probably be easier to train them to steal money from people. We could then spend that money on hiring some more bin men or to move to a cleaner town.
