Stupid title by De Morgen. They didn’t steal the data, they just asked in an advertisement to give a shitload of personal information.
Still, this is bad on so many levels. This is going to be abused one way or the other.
From De Standaard’s article:
>Op die manier krijgt Forza Ninove een geografisch overzicht van straten waar nog meer of minder werk aan de winkel is om zieltjes te winnen. ‘Als ik in de Groenstraat sta, weet ik dus dat die, die en die straks voor ons stemt’, aldus D’haeseleer.
This is pretty freaking disgusting. Tracing back people’s votes like this.
Did anybody find the URL so we provide some data of our own?

Bit annoyed by this title, it sounds like they are illegally using some government/municipality database, while they are voluntarily asking people’s information

As long as:
1) it is clear that this organized by a political party (and not the government)
2) They respect the relevant regulation (e.g. have feasible option to have your personal data deleted)
It should not be a problem
And now China has the data too. When will people learn not to give away personal information ?
This will work out great for people in a Ninove with an absolute VB majority, who are not on this list….
D’Haeseleer probably eats them.
Wie is Forza Ninove nu weer? Ik kan me die naam wel herinneren, maar ik weet niet meer waar ze voor stonden.
Very gross of them manipulating their voter base like that
You guys know that around the election period every person on the list that’s electable will get this information regardless, right?
A friend of mine was electable at the last elections and they got an excel sheet with every voters name, address, phone number and email address of the region they where electable in. Not encrypted and any idiot that goes on a list gets it…
I see a lot of comments on how the headline is “misleading”, and how people “choose” to give their data away and are the real chumps.
Thing is: D’Haeseleer can claim GDPR compliancy from here to Nuremberg, if the goal of the data collection is not specifically and explicitly stated and relevant to the data itself, and well-defined in time, than it is NOT GDPR compliant.
Example: you hairdresser can ask for your mobile number, if they explain why (to send a reminder) and only if relevant to a specific task (your haircut appointment). So in this case, Forza Ninove needs to explicitly state that the personal data will be used to analyze and target them as voters, inform how long the data will be kept, etc.
It’s not immediately clear from the article how they did or didn’t do that, but I have my doubts.
So again, when commie leftist scum uses these tactics there is no problem. When right wing does it it’s disgusting… Fuck off
Forza Ninove sounds like the worst playstation exclusive

I’m not a GDPR expert, but it seems that what is described in the article goes waaaaay beyond that, so I would be tempted to claim they are in violation.
It’s amazing people still do not understand the power they give to the people accumulating this data. In this case it might be some boomer with spreadsheets but behaviouristic scientists using machine learning can effectively reprogram you via drip feeding you selected information based on models they create. Why do you think so many Americans live in crazy town these days. It’s also the main reason propaganda is so effective today cfr Russia/China.With this information social networks/news sites become a weapon and not only to sell you shit.
Reading the comments it seems like most people don’t realize how data mining works. 1 person who doesn’t use the internet, but who is surrounded by friends and family who use Facebook is also being tracked by the data they share.
Think of it as your entire family doing a DNA test except for you. You can bet your ass they have a pretty good idea what your DNA looks like afterwards.
So, here’s their privacy statement on their website as mentioned in the article:
The GDPR states that it should be clear to what end personal data are going to be used. The problematic part is that neither their voter registration nor their privacy statement say to what end or how the data are going to be used specifically.
All these voter registration says: “We need your support to get to a 42% majority next election. You can do this by giving us your personal information.”
It’s absolutely unclear how gathering personal information is going to be used to achieve the goal of attaining 42%.
Are you registering for a newsletter? A petition? As a FN member? As a survey? There’s absolutely no mention.
That’s misleading, and I have my doubts the legitimacy would fly in court.
Heeft niemand door dat pretty much elke grote corporation jouw datagegevens heeft?
He is asking it voluntarily so in that way it doesn’t seem bad. But people should be really aware of what the implications are. It’s really bad.
