Ms Bonifacio is in a hurry and has to dash back indoors for a work Zoom call, but she’s got just enough time to express her affection for the robot delivery service that sends these machines scuttling along her local pavements
Is it just me, or does this seem like a hugely inefficient and wasteful way of getting things delivered?
Presumably this robot trundled from the shop to her home with just her item, or you’re trusting people to only pick out their own items and nobody else’s.
I’d be curious to know what the actual cost of getting items delivered like this. It can’t be particularly cheap (especially when you factor the cost of the robots in), so either the customer/retailer are paying a lot for trivial deliveries like this or Starship Technologies is burning through cash subsidising the whole thing.
Even if somehow this can be made to work financially, imagine trying to roll this out in any area that wasn’t incredibly “nice” – the robots would be vandalised in no time.
