Åland is a small island that’s between Sweden and Finland. I don’t know the differences specifically, but it seems that it’s influenced both by Finnish and some more Nordic dialects. Either way, i would recommend the Sverige one as that’s the one spoken throughout Sweden

It’s weird if you can only choose Sweden or Åland, and not Finland.
It mainly affects the currency sign in your keyboard. They use euros in Åland.

Language settings can change some other stuff than just language. Like how date/time is displayed. If I switch from English (United states) to Svenska (Sverige) I get a 24 hour clock instead of 12 hour am/pm. I also get “Sön 21 aug” instead of “Sun, Aug 21”. Might also change the *default* units used in some apps. (C/F, miles/km).
Might make some change somewhere…
It’s just standard that you pick both language and and country. There’s always some differences between how each country speak a language. Think of it as Canadian or American English. But obviously there was a lot more Swedish speakers in Sweden, so the Swedish spoken in Sweden is more useful. It all depends on what you wanna learn though, if you plan to move to Finland in the future the Swedish spoken there might be more useful. But of course, just like English, if you did end up learning Canadian English it would still be fine to speak it in the US and the other way around.
Åland is Finnish territory but they speak Swedish. They are self-governing and have a special EU status.

The usual computer software fuckup of confusing language with location. The latter controls things like timezone, date/time format, and currency format, and should have absolutely nothing to do with the language (and then there’s the keyboard setting, which should really be a separate setting of its own but sometimes isn’t). The term “locale” is used to some extent cover all these things, and it is pure stupid. It’s been quite a while since you could reasonably assume everyone in the same place prefer the same language.
Whenever language and location are controlled with the same setting, they are doing it wrong. And even if the OS itself might do it correctly, many apps (and websites) mix them up, so it’s very often broken.
Despite being a native Sweden, I’ve always preferred to have my computers use English (as Swedish translations are often imprecise or plain confusing), but I really want a civilised date format so I set that stuff to Swedish. It is appalling how often stuff appears in Swedish, or using heathen units or time/date formats. It’s maybe getting slowly better over time, but it is still unacceptably bad.
