More than 1,000 journalists to strike for four days over pay at publisher

  1. But without journalists, how will I know which ketchup was way better than the rest? Or which ketchup Katie Price is now dating?

  2. Journalists pay is awful, the entire industry is a bit scummy, generally. Unpaid internships, doing some freelance work but not getting paid because they decide at the last minute not to use it.

Office based freelance jobs (usually in London), jobs in central London offering 16k a year, open workplace bullying but being told “that’s the industry.”

You end up with an industry where most people are from London, and/or come from rich families who can absorb the cost of the London rental market (bc that’s where pretty much where all the media jobs are…) not necessarily the most talented journalists.

That’s before you get to the well publicised illegal and unethical practices.

  3. The thing that I can’t get my head around is, if you’re scared to stand up for your rights, how can you as a journalist untangle anything of any importance?
