  1. Man, most of these Redditors have such a hateful narrative toward the typical Russian that it borders on xenophobia. The downvote army is powerful. The way some of these comments are written, they could potentially be just as evil as the Russians they despise so much on a daily basis.

  2. Banning Russians even from tourist visas is wrong for several reasons:

    1) the majority of Putin’s electorate cannot even afford to travel to Europe. They choose cheaper destinations like Turkey and Egypt.

    2) It is Russian middle, upper-middle class that is being punished by this restriction. They could afford travelling to EU. Majority if these people have always been the core for opposition in Russia. So they are getting fucked.

    3) Travelling to EU is expensive. A week stay could cost around 2-4k euro in Western Europe if you count the tickets. There are thousands of Russians travelling to EU every year. All these money contribute to EU’s GDP, not Russian GDP. Tourist visa ban will only promote domestic expenditure in Russia.

    4) a follow-up to point 2) – this will also help Russian government to further antagonize Western officials for ‘russophobe’ decisions.

  3. Good. The majority of my Russian friends are Americans who are here on work visas and hope to become citizens of the United States if their applications for green cards are granted.

Small sample size, but the people I know who emigrated from Russia are generally opposed to Putin and have no desire to go back to their native country.
