But, and not to defend Troy but how incompetent are DCC…
“A DCC spokesperson last week told The Ditch that the council dropped proceedings against Troy because it had been decided he didn’t need planning permission for the construction work. A different spokesperson this week however said that planning permission would be required for the work Troy had carried out at the property.”
Can’t believe this, a Fianna Fáil minister embroiled in scandal.
Honestly you have too hand it to them, they learned absolutely nothing from the crash thay decimated their party. More fool the people who still voted for them.
Does Micheal still have confidence in his minister?
If DCC doesn’t even know their own rules, how would anyone else?
DCC determined at the time that they didn’t need planning permission or a fire cert, so why would they get them?
Not a normal party
Class act
What next, claims he doesn’t have a bank account?
Imagine a government minister saying such a ridiculous thing!
Surely not a minister from that bastion of truth and honour, Fianna Fail!

Edit: Clarified sarcasm with tag.
He has 11 properties, and benefitted from the RAS scheme while at the same time spoke in the oireachtas about increasing funding for the scheme. This is the clearest cut example of corruption and conflict of interests as I can see.
He should have been sacked last week.
On a serious note, fair play to The Ditch for breaking this entire story and persisting. It’s crazy what journalists can do when they aren’t self interested cheerleaders for select political parties.
I wish I had the ability to get angry but there’s been so many scandals that these fuckers always manage to escape while the public continues to vote the same fuckers back in every time. At this point we deserve to have such a broken system.
Time for an audit of everyone in the Dail i think. This is probably low level. Would be interesting to see how many TDs/senior civil servants are directly involved or are heavily invested in REITs, and are actually benefitting from the housing crisis. I think this will appear to go deeper than people realize and expose corruption at every level. Its no wonder there is a housing crisis and health crisis.
I used to the think most of our problems were down to incompetence, but I’m starting to think it’s outright corruption.
This reminds me of the fall of John Delaney. Every Sunday a new article would be released until his position was no longer tenable.
He’s an absolute cluster f….
Blatant corruption. How have they not sacked him yet?
Incomprehensible.
Unbelievable, he has to go. Clowns in government for defending this guy.
The ditch has done an excellent job of drip feeding the information tbf.
FFFG scumbag leeches
Sack him. There is a massive conflict of interest there.
I always have a good chuckle every tine someone says that corruption is not an issue in Ireland
It’d be pretty funny if a minister gets brought down because a local authority doesn’t understand the rules its meant to enforce.
Even if you take him at his word that he didn’t think that he had to declare the properties in the first place, the fact that he’s failed to follow the rule and then spoke on something that would directly benefit him *has* to be a sackable offence. Whether by mistake or on purpose, you can’t water down standards in public accountability in that way.
It’s disappointing that the rest of his party don’t also think so.
Heard someone on the radio saying something like “he made a mistake and he’s fixed it, so no harm no foul ”
Fuck that.
I mean…
Look it lads, repeatedly voting for the status quo will always embolden these feckers to push the envelope (usually a brown unmarked one) further and further. More so when they’re further right of the political spectrum (no, not saying the left is much better).
Look at what’s going on in England, with the “fuck you, the rules don’t apply to us” attitude with the tories. Look at what’s going on in the US with the “fuck you, the rules don’t apply to us” attitude with the republicans. Really shouldn’t come as much shock that FGFF are pulling the same shite after getting reelected time and time again no matter what they do.
Just wait until the next general election rolls around, they’ll be voted back in again because FGFF will saturate us with stories of how every other politician in the land but them is thick, doesn’t have a decisive plan, or in the case of SF are pure evil. And their cycle of greed will keep rolling, while the rest of us scratch our heads and complain about the state of the country.
Get this bollox out and audit every. single. one of them
Ministers should have to invest in passive index funds. At least then they’d care about deemed disposal.
A blind trust at the least and banned from taking public money in their private dealings.
Same old shite. Depressing isn’t it
I can’t comment about these cunts anymore but before I fuck off from this troy saga my vote will go to anyone but FF/FG and the lovely green people (tossers) politicians are greedy scum.
I really dont like paddy cosgrave and his anti government pro SF blog, but this beatdown on troy, this generations ray burke is quite the enthralling read
