I saw the other day some massive Chevrolet truck trying to make its way into Navan shopping center parking.
It was nearly too wide to get through the gate. Then had to go up to the highest level to find two spaces it could park in.
Absolute dickhead car.

Width with/without mirrors: 2163/1860 mm. Width with mirrors folded: 1977 mm.
It isnt the widest on the road by a long shot. Both the Disco and Transit are wider. It seems to be driven like the widest vehicle however.
You hate it because it’s working class money. Barrister in a Volvo XC90 never cast you a thought.

I suppose a 2.5 litre diesel 4 X 4 is *essential* when parking on a double yellows with the hazards on to nip in and get a coffee from bear market.
I don’t see the problem with them. They are a relatively inexpensive car for what you get. Anyone I know that has one is trade/business related and just didn’t want a van. They are pretty much the same size as a Range Rover or a Van.
Everyone is complaining about pick ups but until you own one and drive it you won’t appreciate how good they are.

Literally everyone I know who has one uses it for farming. They are also one of the few pick ups left that you can buy from new. Ive never seen one used as an everyday vehicle.

Just to point out that these vehicles have tax advantages for some owners – there is no BIK on them if you have one as a company or crew vehicle and you can get the VAT back on them. AFAIK in the US there is also a significant tax break on them – hence why tons of folks drive them Vs cars – they probably have become “cool” over the years too as a result maybe (companies can put a big old engine in them and they’re still cheaper than a car)?? In IRL if you are using one commercially you are not supposed to carry back seat passengers unless they are part of a work crew – kids etc. are out. How much people obey that rule is debateable! Used to be that the likes of a landcruiser with back seats could avail of favourable tax treatment but not anymore – unless they are 2 seaters. Thats possibly why we are seeing more pickups now Vs the other options that were available before.

Here in the States the Ranger is considered small. One of our local news stations did a piece on a new SUV and you could line up 8 children in a row in front of the vehicle and not see any of them because it’s so huge
Thankfully we don’t live in a world where you need to justify your purchases. If you want to drive a Ford Ranger, BMW X5, Range Rover etc then you should go & do so, it’s called freedom.
We have enough rules & regulations as is.
There are those who look at the fancy car in admiration & think fair-play to that guy. There are also those who look at the fancy car & detest it oftentimes just covering up their envy / jealousy.
Life comes with a lot more grief if you are in the cynical / negative camp.
Mind your own business & let people do as they please.
From living in Texas, it amuses me to no end that y’all think a Ranger is a big truck.
